We've been counting down the biggest headlines of 2008, and we'll be revealing more throughout the month of December. We hope you enjoy this look back at some of the posts and stories that created the most buzz throughout the year.
Early in 2008, rumors began to circulate that legendary actor Paul Newman's health was in decline. The stories persisted despite assurances that he was "doing nicely." As a friend let it slip that he was battling cancer, it began to appear that Paul was, in fact, seriously ill.

The chatter proved to be sadly accurate — Paul Newman passed away at his home in Westport, CT on September 27 after waging a private battle against cancer. As his family and friends remembered the actor and race car enthusiast, we took a look back at his storied life and career. The 10-time Academy Award nominee was famous for his many films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cool Hand Luke and Road to Perdition. He was equally revered for his extensive philanthropy, which included the non-profit food empire he ran with his daughter Nell, Newman's Own, and his Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a summer camp for seriously ill children.
Tributes continued to mount for the man who was unanimously loved in Hollywood for his kindness and charity, and Paul's memory is certain to live on.
that body
1The world lost a great talent and a better man. Paul Newman is a great example of everything a star should be.
2He lived a long and full life. Newman is one of the lucky ones.
3This really broke my heart, he's my favorite actor and a hero. But yes he did live a beautiful and full life, and we were lucky to have a human being like him who made a huge impact on the world. There will never be another Paul Newman :*)
4Love this guy. I have seen the Hole-in-Wall program training/fundraisers similar to Team-in-Training popping up. I expect they will have a banner year with people also running in tribute to him.
5Sad story. But I think that in the end Barack Obama should be number one when it comes to the BIGGEST headline.
Can't wait to see more of your headlines
6love him he was a good man
7didnt know he was that hot too !!!
8this was so heartbreaking, he was such a good guy! he was the only actor I ever wanted to meet and him and ms. woodward kept it real. if only other actors these days could take a tip from these two.
9I'm proud to say I grew up on Newman's Own Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing. Seriously. It's the only one my mom would buy if she didn't make it herself.
Hud and Cat On a Hot Tin Roof are my fav Newman movies, and anytime he acted with his wife. I love their love story, and I can't imagine the loneliness she must feel now that her partner of 50yrs isn't there.
10I heard a story about a lady who went into an ice cream shop in Westport and ordered a cone. While she was waiting for it, she looked around the counter and sitting there reading a newspaper was Paul Newman. She said all she could do was look at those blue eyes! She put her change in her purse and walked slowly outside, not believing what just happened to her. After a minute or two, she realized she had forgotten her cone. She turned around, went back inside and started looking for her cone. When she looked back over at Paul, he had a huge grin on his face, and he said "you put it in your purse!"
11I would do some sh*t like that.
12FyA, And it would be worth ruining a perfectly good purse!!
13I was a huge fan of his and I was really sad about this.
14ccpdm hahaha I love that story! Any girl would do something like that staring in those beautiful blue eyes!
Cool Hand Luke is my absolute favorite Paul Newman movie!
15That was sad, but at least he lived a long and full life. I think it's sadder when someone young dies. Look at all of the things that he did while he was alive. I can only pray that I live and accomplish as much as he did.
16The biggest headline for 2008 will probably be that president elect Obama won the presidency and made history.
R.I.P. Paul Newman. He lived a long, full life and he will be remembered always.
