Who Are the Best Movie Girlfriends of 2009?

We've already talked about the best dude buddies of '09, but this year gave us several true-blue girlfriends, too (plus a BFF mother-daughter pair).

We've already talked about the best dude buddies of '09, but this year gave us several true-blue girlfriends, too (plus a BFF mother-daughter pair). While many have seen their share of drama (Jennifer’s Body, for instance?), we still had fun watching all of their relationships. So tell me, which of these ladies are your favorites?

What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays.

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below, you can also catch Jean-Claude Van Damme in JCVD on DVD.

Nothing But the Truth
I didn't get to see this in the theaters, so I'm curious to check out this political thriller starring Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, Angela Bassett, Vera Farmiga, David Schwimmer, and Alan Alda.

The movie's plot is described as "ripped from the headlines" and centers on a journalist (Beckinsale) who outs an acquaintance of hers as a CIA agent. Things get interesting when the government's prosecutor (Dillon) sends the journalist to jail for contempt. The movie was written and directed by Rod Lurie, the guy behind one of my favorite political movies, The Contender.

Special features include commentary from the director, deleted scenes, and a making-of featurette.

Buzz In: What Movie Proposals Do You Love?

Around this time of year, my calendar starts to fill up with weddings, which also means I've been hearing all about the proposals for a while now.

Around this time of year, my calendar starts to fill up with weddings, which also means I've been hearing all about the proposals for a while now. Inevitably this leads me to think about cute movie proposals, like the one in Bride Wars when Anne Hathaway's character finds a ring in a fortune cookie. It's not a good movie, but that part is sweet.

And while the romance was doomed, I still think Patrick Dempsey's proposal to Reese Witherspoon's character in Sweet Home Alabama is totally romantic. Alone at Tiffany's surrounded by sparkles? Awesome. Another adorable movie proposal involving Ms. Witherspoon comes from Walk the Line in which Joaquin Phoenix's Johnny Cash corners his lady love on stage and tells her, "Now I've asked you 40 different ways and it's time you come up with a fresh answer. . . . I'm asking you to marry me. I love you, June. . . . You're my best friend. Marry me." The cutest!

Now it's your turn: what movie proposals do you love?

Whose Bride Wars Style Is Most Fab?

I like this little fashion trick Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson are playing on us.

I like this little fashion trick Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson are playing on us. On the European red carpet for Bride Wars, Anne wore a light hued Gianfranco Ferre dress, while Kate wore a dark Louis Vuitton one. Then in the garden photo shoot, Kate wore a light outfit, while Anne went dark. Is it night and day? Salt and pepper? At the Berlin premiere, both wore all black. These ladies have certainly stepped up their game, but whose Bride Wars style is most Fab?

Kate and Anne Peacefully Bring Bride Wars to Europe

Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway were still in Europe over the weekend to promote their Bride Wars.

Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway were still in Europe over the weekend to promote their Bride Wars. The girls smiled for the cameras during a garden photo shoot in Rome on Saturday, and earlier today they appeared in Paris inside the Hotel George V. Kate was looking particularly happy and tan after her recent romantic romp in Hawaii. Anne is expected to be in DC tomorrow for Obama's inauguration and has also expressed interest in being the First Babysitter for Malia and Sasha.

Celebrity Style Double Whammy: Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway

Today, we're mixing things up with a double whammy.

Today, we're mixing things up with a double whammy. Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway looked stellar together at the Bridewars photo call in Berlin. They're both wearing dark ensembles but are showing off very different styles.

Kate opted for more va-va-voom by wearing a leather Temperley London pencil skirt, silk ruffled top, and black patent peep toe pumps. For accessories, the actress decked on gold hoop earrings, a fat cocktail ring, and layered Jennifer Meyer chains.

On the flip side, Anne exuded casual glam in mixed metal adornments — including Sara Weinstock bracelets and $4,900 Garrard wing earrings — a black wrap-around sweater, J Brand skinny jeans, and patent booties. I love them both, what about you?

Kate and Anne Are All About Making Love Not War

Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway matched in black while promoting Bride Wars in Berlin earlier today.

Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway matched in black while promoting Bride Wars in Berlin earlier today. Kate had a golden glow following her romantic trip to Maui, and Anne's still basking in another Best Actress win for Rachel Getting Married. Kate's not the only one enjoying a new relationship these days — Anne was spotted kissing her new man Adam Shulman over the weekend. Regardless of their love lives, these two ladies have a lot to celebrate — their film is doing well in the box office, and we'll see if the girls can win over international audiences.
