Britney Spears Rings in 26, Scandinavian Style

Britney Spears didn't let her 26th Birthday start with a whisper. She was out, walking the red carpet for the first time in months, at the Scandinavian Mansion Of Style party, along with her momentary BFF (one year ago right now in fact) Paris Hilton and Sharon Stone. Also by her side were current permanent fixtures Alli and Sam. Oh, and she left with this guy for the after party. At the Scandinavian style bash Brit was given the white coat along with a chocolate cake to celebrate her day. I'm sure we'll be hearing all about her behavior in the party, but until then — Happy 26th Birthday, Britney. I hope it's a blast.

I didn't say that Britney had a mental illness, though others have suggested it, and no, I'm certainly not projecting my family's issues onto the life of Britney. However, it does seem like something is wrong with her, and even if it is just substance abuse many people disagree with your therapist that addiction is just a personality trait. I actually cannot believe that your therapist treats people with serious addictions as though they have a problematic personality trait. "You drink cuz you're a skank! Hand me $200!" Yet again, no matter how offbeat and genius Van Gogh was, he was not the only person to ever have suffered from a mental illness. Irritating people like Britney and many homeless people also do. Even if Britney is just a flat out loser and bitch I just find it strange that people obviously take enjoyment in criticizing her. It's pretty much like the new American spectator sport. I can picture ancient Romans throwing Christians to the lions, that's what we do with celebrities like Britney. Obviously they like it, and make money off of it, but it's still a little creepy.

I asked my therapist if she thought Britney Spears has a mental illness and she said 'Van Gough had a mental illness , Britney Spears has a case of Substance - based addiction." I asked her to define it and she said "Neurological based addiction such as alcoholism, nicotine, prescription, narcotic, gambling, shopping, eating, and sexual activity are all based susceptibility characterized by the personality trait.

Just because someone's actions don't make sense to YOU, doesn't mean that she is mentally ill. Her priorities are messed up in my point of view, but that doesn't mean she has a mental illness. I have known of MANY stars that were drunk on fame alone, and are/were as misguided and delusional as Britney is. If she was mentally ill, and not just an addict, the courts would have said something. It is possible to be so self absorbed that you are delusional, but that doesn't mean that you are bi-polar, etc. If I could only tell you stories to illustrate my point...

snowbunny, your posts were very interesting and I am sorry about your family's struggles.There is an absolute link between depression (not just "Gee, I feel fat today" but real and deep) and substance abuse. Addicts are compensating for something that is missing just as egomaniacs are compensating. When someone is suffering from mental illness (such as depression or bi-polar disorder) they are unable to be whole. There is a general consensus ppl should just "get over it" and that they can "stop when they want to." This just isn't the case. In addition, they stop caring about themselves, their lives and their decisions. Their hygiene, motivation, family, etc. all goes out the window. They stop caring not because they are selfish but because they can't. I know it seems like that is impossible but it's true. It seems really hard to believe someone would continually screw up her life and risk losing everything over and over. The thinking is very delusional. Does that seem like rational behaviour? It is exactly what is expected of people who have lost control mentally. Brit's life is fodder and $$$ for the paparazzi regardless of whether she courts their presence.

Good points, Tia. I think that Brit suffers from the mental illness I like to call Star-itous. When you become famous, there are 2 paths you can take. 1. Keep friends around you that aren't "Yes" people, stay grounded. No matter how fabulous people tell you that you are, you ignore their flattery and focus on what is most important: being a good person. Focus on your craft, and how you want to do work that challenges you, not just what keeps you famous. 2. You become an ego manic that only wants to interact with people that treat them like a God and over inflates their own importance. You treat others that you think are not as famous (aka "important") as pee ons that don't deserve to talk to you or look at you. You think that you have something special about you that should make everyone bend over backwards to fill your needs.BS's behavior suggests she is in group #2.

I agree that mental illness is not a joking matter, and neither is drug use and abuse. But understand that Spears is a media-seeker. It's pretty evident that she feeds off the attention, and continually comes back for more. While it maybe safe to assume that Britney Spears is not in her right mind, that doesn't and shouldn't warrant pity. I can't pity a person who runs off all the people that are truly on her side. Ugh, where to start. The choker and the fur jacket are just plain awful. Then the dress, which wouldn't have been bad if it was longer and not so tight. But there is her horrible hair and until she decides to fix that, nothing else will look good. And really, she doesn't look like a 26 year old, she looks like a 36 year old. But that is what tanning beds, heavy partying, drugs and booze can do to you.

How can someone with so much money still look so bad. Her body isn't bad but the clothes she wears do not look good on her body shape. Also, she needs to start dressing as a mother of 2 who is 26 not a drunk college student going to the frat house. I still don't get the fans who are still in love with her.Also, maybe I'm alone on this but why would you have a big birthday party when you have just lost custody of your children? It seems tacky for her to do this. I can understand feeling bad for someone with depresion,etc...but she isn't doing anything to deserve it. I have yet to see a picture of her where she looks sad about her situation or even in deep thought.

She looks my age. That's not a good thing when you're 26. I'm 35. And she'll NEVER figure out how to dress to flatter her figure. She has some pretty great legs, but the length and snugness of her dress makes them look stubby and fat. Don't get me started on the hair. If you can call it hair, that is.

"Act like a mother, your children don't need a "sexy pop princess" they need a mother to look up and make them feel safe" Amen! She had her kids the next day too. Court orders say she isn't allowed to drink alcohol 12 hours before getting her kids.

Ino ... I think she looks better the she usually does. And shes always dressed like that :D ... well at least from the time she started to date kevin @_@;... BUT..She has never had that "good" kinda of a style i think ... (Ok sometimes her dresses were gorgeous (L) *.*)
