Can Jessica Alba Cut It As A Serious Actress?

Lately, Jessica Alba has been talking about how she wishes everyone would get over her "hotness" and start considering her seriously as an actress. Based on her past films, we haven't seen Jessica in many heavy roles but what do you think - can Jessica cut it as a serious actress?

Being pretty doesn't hinder an actress' ability to act. Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler, Scarlett Johansson, and others have proven their acting skills. Granted, Jessica hasn't had challenging roles. I saw a few episodes of Dark Angel and I wasn't impressed. I'll wait until I see The Eye before I say anything.

I'm a big fan of Dark Angel, I own both season DVD's, and have watched the episodes as well as all the nifty extras they throw in and I just have to say -- I cant let myself believe that Jessica is an emotionless wall of stoicism. She was a great actress on that show and she looked like she was having fun. I loved her so much. I just think she's in the wrong scene, I don't think big time movies are for her. I think she would do better embracing something along the lines of a television series again and let loose of Hollywood and what she's made for herself since her tv show days, if she wants to be an actress. She's had issues with her body when she was young, so I'm not surprised that she doesn't embrace her skin and beauty for how flawless it is. She's insecure about herself, so I just hope she figures things out and wish her the best.

She's young, beautiful, and in her prime --- she should enjoy it. It makes her sound incredibly ungrateful to the things that launched her to fame, a large part of which are her looks. "Honey" and "Fantastic Four" are not exactly serious parts and she's never stood out in any of her other roles.I agree with everyone who says she should choose her roles more carefully and I can not agree more that she shouldn't be posing in wet t-shirts if she wants to be taken seriously.

She is a bad actress and her personality is very blah. I'm still trying to figure out how she went from C-list to A-list in the first place. Was is Sin City? There are many talented actresses out there who should get her roles, like Rachel Bilson for example.

i think shes an alright actress. there isnt even enough work out there for us to judge her on that. shes constantly type-casted as just a pretty face

She's a cute girl, but she'll never be more than just another pretty face. That doe eyed pouty look has gotten her this far, but this is it. All that talk about wanting to be taken serious is crap. I can't believe that Felicity Huffman taught her acting skills, big mistake!Maybe she should prove herself by showing less skin and more skill. The only Jessica that is credible as an actress is Biel

Sharon B - try the Pollo Loco ep in Season 1 of Dark Angel. She gets to cry in that one. That said, I don't think you're going to find anything to change your mind on her acting-wise, although she was okay as Sue Storm in Fantastic Four.

P.S. She could move to Europe or New York (blow off Hollywood) and take acting classes and start doing independent films. Isn't that what Cameron Diaz did after she first got hot? Angelina did it too. She should escape the crazy left coast and figure out who she is. And get rid of the cliched, overly GQ'd cute boyfriend for pete's sake.

I guess she could try to pull off a Halle or Charlize and ugly-up for a role but I think it's unrealistic for these women to think everybody is going to suddenly ignore their beauty. Their jobs are, after all, based for the most part on their looks. And I think the difference between Jessica and Angelina, for instance, is that Angelina is underneath it all a really good actress and a very smart woman. Jessica just seems like a hot teenage girl to me ... not a smart woman.
