Anderson Cooper's great-great-great-grandfather, railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt, was worth $2 trillion in today's dollars. And his mother, heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, is worth a reported $200 million. Yet, Anderson disclosed this week that he's not seeing any of the family fortune — and he's more than fine with it. In fact, the journalist doesn't believe in inheriting money, calling it a "curse" and "initiative-sucker." Anderson says he's chosen to live his life as if there's no "pot of gold" waiting for him. He's not the only rich kid to buck the trust-fund trend and work hard for his money. Of course, it never hurts to come from privilege, but let's look at those who found success in their own right. Some might surprise you.
