Gwyneth Paltrow Dishes on Her Diet and Marriage in Self

Gwyneth Paltrow covers Self magazine's April issue, and inside the pages, she opens up about her diet, her marriage to Chris Martin, and her strong female friendships.

Gwyneth Paltrow covers Self magazine's April issue, and inside the pages, she opens up about her diet, her marriage to Chris Martin, and her strong female friendships. The actress will next star in Iron Man 3 and just released her second cookbook, It's All Good. She's been busy promoting the release this month, and in another new interview, Gwyneth revealed that she suffered a miscarriage that threatened her life when she was pregnant for the third time. She doesn't address the experience in Self but is similarly candid about her personal life in the article. Gwyneth — who shares some of her favorite recipes in the magazine — says that her newfound approach to healthy eating changed not only her body, but also her marriage and emotional health. Here's more from Gwyneth Paltrow in Self:

  • On her female friendships: "I feel a sisterhood emerging around me. I'm less threatening now that I'm 40 and not 26-with-an-Oscar. There's a sense of love and support."
  • On changing her diet: "A couple of years ago, I got really run down. I had to sing at award shows, which was fun but stressful. I'd have a Guinness and a beta-blocker every time . . . Eventually, I had a panic attack. My body was like, 'What is happening?' You feel lighter and your emotions get smoother . . . Sometimes when you get clear about who you are, others get less comfortable because they liked how you were. It changed my marriage [to Chris Martin] too, but he's up for the challenge."
  • On how she unwinds: "I watch Homeland or New Girl. I also like to have martinis with my girlfriends."

Matt Damon Shares a Youthful Smile, Talks Brad Pitt and George Clooney's "Charm" in GQ

Matt Damon posed for a playful spread in GQ's January 2012 issue.

Matt Damon posed for a playful spread in GQ's January 2012 issue. The actor donned shrunken shirts and showed off his carnival game skills in the photos taken by Ben Watts, which accompany an interview conducted at the Central Park Zoo. The location is fitting as Matt is in the middle of promoting his latest project, We Bought a Zoo, with his most recent appearance on the red carpet at last night's NYC premiere. He said he plans to take a break with his family for the holidays, but in the men's magazine, Matt was all about business. Here's more from Matt Damon in GQ:

  • On working with George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the Ocean's movies: "Look, if you want to try and GQ it up with George and Brad, good luck! That's pretty rarefied air, and you're not going to bring more charm than those two, so you've got to find something else."
  • On President Obama's joke about him at the White House Correspondents' dinner: “I have to say, it was pretty funny. Whoever came up with it, it was a terrific joke.”
  • Director Steven Soderbergh on Matt: "Probably the least vain person in his position out there. He has no interest in protecting any sort of idea of himself as an actor."

Charlize Theron Talks Stuart, Kristen Stewart, and More in Vogue

Charlize Theron wore a stunning silver gown for the cover of December 2011's Vogue, which will be available in the US on Nov.

Charlize Theron wore a stunning silver gown for the cover of December 2011's Vogue, which will be available in the US on Nov. 22. The actress is out and about chatting up her upcoming movie Young Adult, which is the second collaboration from Juno writer and director Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman. Charlize spoke about working with Jason shortly after splitting from her boyfriend of 10 years Stuart Townsend. She reflected on what it's like being single for the first time in her adult life, and how she's now throwing herself back into work. Another of her projects hitting theaters in the coming year is Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart, who Charlize raves about as well. Charlize said:

  • On making Young Adult after her split from Stuart Townsend: "I’d gotten out of a relationship, and I was in this really floaty place. My feet weren’t touching the ground. I just kind of turned to [Jason Reitman] and was like, ‘I feel like me again.’. . . [The relationship] was sinking, and I had to give it a fight. I really wanted to try and make it work. That was the priority. I wouldn’t do it any different way."
  • On finally being single: "I’ve never been single. This is the first time in my life. From the time I was 19, I’ve been in relationships, literally gone from one to the other within a month. . . . It’s been good for me. I’m a creature who’s really found her comfort zone in relationships. . . . It’s been nice to rediscover myself. I had to make a real conscious effort to do it — it’s hard. It’s much easier to lose yourself in flowers and cigarettes and coffee with somebody else."
  • On her Snow White costar Kristen Stewart: “She just turned 21. She’s a child. When I think about myself at 21, I had just done The Devil’s Advocate, and Keanu [Reeves] had paparazzi following him and Al Pacino said this thing to me: ‘If I knew that my life would be under this kind of scrutiny, I would have never become an actor.’ ” And I thought, Wow. I couldn’t comprehend it. . . . And Kristen is just living this to the max and still has a sense of humor about it. There’s this really lovely quality about her that just doesn’t give a f*ck. A lot of people say they don’t, but then they go home and cry and pop a Xanax. Kristen actually doesn’t give a f*ck. That’s what’s so refreshing about her. . . . I’m looking forward to killing her and taking her beauty. That’s what happens, right?"

Kristen Stewart is on the cover of Glamour's November issue to promote Breaking Dawn, and while her cover look might echo Bella's girl-next-door style, her sexy, laced-up spread inside the magazine is definitely all Kristen. The actress, who has been on the set of Snow White and the Huntsman in Wales in recent weeks, is readying to move past the role that made her a household name as the franchise comes to a close. Twilight author Stephenie Meyer interviewed Kristen for the magazine this Summer just outside of London, where they chatted about Kristen's leading men, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Kristen even reflected on the best romantic advice she's gotten during their conversation. Here are some highlights:

  • On how Taylor and Rob are different: "It’s fun to watch with him because we actually sit and watch it. Me and Taylor are actual Twilight fans, so we can sit there and be totally into it! Whereas I sit there with Rob…he likes it, but he has just such a different energy."
  • On her advice regarding relationships: "Hmm…good relationship advice for me tends to be being honest and knowing yourself. Don’t be an asshole. That’s my advice. Don’t be mean. Don’t take sh*t. Don’t settle."

Justin joked about getting used to it saying, "You establish all sorts of mannerisms with it. Like when you're bored, you can feather your mustache." And as for how the ladies feel about his scruff, "Certain chicks dig it; certain chicks don't." These days, however, Justin is rocking a smooth-shaven face for his leisurely afternoons out with Jennifer. Jennifer and Justin have been spotted going to a few appointments together, fueling rumors of a baby, but for now they're just happy to shack up and take advantage of more downtime before their film hits theaters.

Sarah Jessica Parker is on the cover of this week's Parade, chatting up her new film I Don't Know How She Does It, talking life with Matthew Broderick, and revealing that their son James wants to join the family business. SJP has done lots of press in the run-up to her film's release on Sept. 16, including a beautiful cover of August's Vogue that featured her whole brood. Sarah Jessica has a new film on the way, but conversation continually turns toward the role she's most famous for: Carrie Bradshaw. SJP confirmed that a third Sex and the City movie is likely, though she declined to speak about the plot. The film could come in addition to a SATC-prequel TV series, which means we'll have lots more Carrie and co. to come! SJP said in the magazine:

  • On her twins Loretta and Tabitha: "They’re talking, they’re running, they need me. Loretta is deeply inquisitive: ‘Do you see that, do you hear that, Mama?’ She constantly checks that we are connecting with her.” Her sister is the family princess: “Tabitha does not give; she receives.”
  • On not having live-in help: "We love closing the door and having the only people in the house be our three children and us. It’s such a good feeling to know that we’re competent and capable, and that it’s private.”
  • On James Wilkie's wanting to act: "I don’t want him to do it until after he goes to college. But part of me thinks maybe it’s better if he knows the truth now about how hard it is to be a working actor. I don’t know that he grasps what it took to get us here."
  • On there being a chance for the SATC3 movie: "There is. I know what the story is. It’s a small story, but I think it should be told. The question is, what’s the right time to tell it?”

Gwyneth Paltrow Tells Elle Chris Martin Doesn't Want His Fans Envisioning a "Lame Famous Couple"

Gwyneth Paltrow wore two different black looks for the September 2011 cover of Elle magazine.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore two different black looks for the September 2011 cover of Elle magazine. She's in the issue chatting up her role in the star-studded movie Contagion, which opens on Sept. 9. Gwyneth also touched on her other work, like her recurring role on Glee, foray into music, and writing GOOP. She shared some advice pal Beyoncé Knowles gave her before the Grammys and discussed why she decided to share workout tips in her e-newsletter. Gwyneth also made a rare comment about her husband Chris Martin, divulging why they keep their marriage out of the spotlight. Gwyneth said:

  • On Beyoncé's help for the Grammys: "This story always makes me cry. . . . It’s 10 in the morning and Beyoncé schleps it all the way down to the Staples Center to watch. I mean, she’s Beyoncé! . . . Beyoncé's like, 'OK. The singing is great. But you’re not having any fun.' She’s like, 'Remember when we’re at Jay’s concert and Panjabi MC comes on and you do your crazy Indian dance? Do that. Be you!'"
  • On sharing her workouts: "It’s so much easier to sit home and not exercise and criticize other people. What I love is inspiring people. People come up to me and say, ‘I want to have two kids and wear a bathing suit and not feel terrible about myself. I see how hard you work and it makes me feel like I can do that too.'"
  • On rumors she and Chris broke up: "Sometimes it’s hard being with someone for a long time. We go through periods that aren’t all rosy. I always say, life is long and you never know what’s going to happen. If, God forbid, we were ever not to be together, I respect him so much as the father of my children. Like, I made such a good choice. He’s such a good dad. You can never be relaxed or smug and think, ‘I’ve got this thing.’ That’s also part of it: keeping yourself on your toes. I’m not going to take this for granted."
  • On keeping her marriage private: "He makes music for his fans, and he doesn’t want people to conjure a lame famous couple when they’re getting into his music. I get it."

Shia LaBeouf Talks of a Megan Fox Hookup in Details

Shia LaBeouf looked natural posing inside a sleek yellow sports car for the August issue of Details.

Shia LaBeouf looked natural posing inside a sleek yellow sports car for the August issue of Details. It's gearing up to be a busy Summer for Shia, whose Transformers: Dark of the Moon is out tomorrow. Shia's been crisscrossing the world on a major press tour for the third installment of the blockbuster series, which sees him team up with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for the first time after two films with Megan Fox as leading lady. Shia LaBeouf revealed he and Megan Fox hooked up during production on one film, and he had more to say about ex-girlfriend Carey Mulligan. LA stylist Karolyn Pho is at the center of Shia's personal life at the moment, and he recently spoke in another interview about how she's getting him to try new things. He told Details:

  • On getting into fights: "I would like to be George Clooney — diplomatic. I just don’t have the wherewithal yet or the inner serenity. My bullsh*t meter is tuned very sensitive. The minute it starts kicking up, I get back to truth, and sometimes that involves, you know, 'I don’t want to take a picture.' And if that’s the case, am I an a**hole for being honest? Or am I an a**hole for being dishonest, smiling in your picture and I fu**ing hate being there? Which one is worse? These are the questions I ask myself that George Clooney doesn’t ask."
  • On a Megan Fox romance: "[LaBeouf nods affirmatively] Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them. I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen."
  • On Carey Mulligan: "I still love her. I think she’s a f*cking awesome person and an incredible actress. We’re still pals. I wouldn’t take any of it back, and I don’t think she would either. It just ran its course."

Emma Watson Talks Love, Fame, and Harry Potter in July's Vogue

Emma Watson struck a pose for the July edition of Vogue, which will be on newsstands June 21.

Emma Watson struck a pose for the July edition of Vogue, which will be on newsstands June 21. The actress is prepping for the release of the final film in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, ahead of its release on July 15. Emma has been busy shooting The Perks of Being a Wallflower in Pittsburgh, but she'll soon leave the set for a global press tour with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. She spoke in the magazine about how Daniel was a born leader while they worked on the franchise, which plucked her from obscurity and made her a star. Emma is grappling with the enormity of her fame, but still apparently looking to connect with someone outside the business. Emma Watson told Vogue:

  • On the strange circumstances of her fame: "I have had no control over my life. I have lived in a complete bubble. They found me and picked me for the part. And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it."
  • On Daniel Radcliffe being a leader on set: "He understood what his role was. Not just as an actor but as the leading man in this enormous franchise. And I think that was almost more important in a way. He held it all together. I am very grateful for him."
  • On what she's looking for romance-wise: "I’m a feminist, but I think that romance has been taken away a bit for my generation. I think what people connect with in novels is this idea of an overpowering, encompassing love — and it being more important and special than anything and everything else. I would love to not date someone in the same industry as me. Otherwise it becomes what it means to everyone else."
