ICYMI, earlier this week a recording leaked of Christian Bale going off on a profanity-laced rant at one of the Terminator crew members back when the movie was being filmed. Since then plenty of people have thrown in their two cents on the rant — both defending and reprimanding — and there have been remixes and mash ups all over the Internet.
Today, Christian himself called into the Kevin & Bean LA morning radio show to issue an apology. He takes full responsibility for his actions, calling himself a punk and his behavior inexcusable and even saying that he deserves to be made fun of. He sounds surprisingly modest and has a lot to say, quite honestly, on the matter.
Listen to the clip here and tell us — do you forgive Christian Bale?
i could careless about this guy, but this apology crap is getting stupid and old.
1He wasn't talking to me...he should apologize the the guy and his family. Mr. Bale has been in the news over his mother and sister before- somebody needs some therapy.
2FORGIVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He seems very sincere and I know what he means by exploding at work
and losing your temper. Plus Christian is to freaking cute to stay mad at.
I was never
mad by the way but I loves him and people should just forget this already.
3I forgave him as soon as I heard about this rant to begin with! I get really pissed too, and most everyone does, I don't see how anyone can blame him.
He's still 'my husband.'
4What a load.
5The radio guys are so up his ass. And explaining why he did it=making an excuse. Get over yourself. He cares too much about the movie and that's why he was an ass? Yeah right.
I also can't imagine this is really his one time blow up, as he says.
love angelina, I agree. move on, people.
6joecer49123- his mom and sister pressed charges because he wouldn't write them a check. It actually had nothing to do with assault or anything related.
7I have a really stressful job too and would never ever treat someone that way. His "blowup" was disgusting and I don't think there is ANY EXCUSE to treat someone that way, let alone just because this guy walked in his line of sight. What would happen if someone actually did something of importance that made Christian mad? It's an anger management issue. I'd hate to be his wife or daughter.
8Everyone made such a huge deal out of this. Once I heard it, I didn't understand what the big thang was. He was pissed. Big deal. Wasn't the scene they were filming rather intense? This guy gets into his rolls (anyone seen The Machinist?), who knows what his state of mind was at the time. And from what I understand, he and the guy have already kissed and made up.
The mom and sister thing is complete BS. Willowdiamond is right, that had to do with $$.
9He doesn't need OUR forgiveness. He hasn't wronged US in any way. His interview made it abundantly clear that he apologized to Shane Hurlbut (the person towards whom Bale's invective was directed). It has also been reported that he apologized to the entire crew soon after the incident. He is in no way obligated to apologize to the public, SIX months after the issue has been resolved amongst the people that were actually involved.
10This was clearly an isolated incident , a regrettable lapse in judgment, taken out of context and blown out of proportion. I am not going to condone Bale's behaviour nor am I going to condemn it --- because it's not my place to do so, nor anybody else's for that matter. This is between Bale and Hurlbut and from the looks of it they settled the matter ages ago and have moved on.
Too little too late. His reaction was totally out of line. His screaming went on for 5 minuites! He has lost my respect. This tantrum that he had is way out of line in any circumstance. Rediculous.
11I didn't listen to the rant or the apology, nor care to to so.
When I heard of this all I could think of was the incident with his mother and sister earlier, though I do not know what really happened - just what was reported.
In any event, I take all of this as too much celebrity too quickly. I know he has been acting for quite a while, but he is finally becoming a household name in America. He should just learn to control himself before it becomes worse.
12This whole thing almost made me like Christian Bale less... almost
13In my opinion, he can do no wrong... so I guess my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.
We all fly off the handle sometimes, but for most of us it's not broadcast to the world and made into remixes (which, by the way, are mostly comic gold). He apologized to the crew & the dude he yelled at, so let's move on. Everyone's an a**hole sometimes, right?
14All right then, forgiven, I suppose.
15we all know that he did apologize a while back for all this so i think that it's something that you should just forgive and get over. he had a rough summer and this was just all at the tail end of it all.
16A day late, a dollar short. Still a jerk in my book.
17He apologized because he realized it went beyond just hte person it was directed to -- and that was smart in my opinion.
Honestly, I was cracking up when listening to the remix someone made of the rant... The apology didn't change my opinion of Bale, because his rant didn't, either.
18At least he's giving everyone permission to mock him! He say's he deserves it. That raises my opinion of him in this incident.
19I appreciate the apology, even though his rant was directed to a specific person, who he had already apologized to long ago.
The thing that makes the difference for me, with Bale, is that he takes he goes above and beyond to give the directors the kind of emotion that is needed for a scene. Remember Heath Ledger, and how he was so worked up from playing a psycho killer that he could not get to sleep? Some actors have to take themselves into weird places, mentally. Everyone praises him for getting super worked up for the scene... and then everyone gets mad at him for being too worked up when some guy ruins the scene?
This was not some backyard home video. The investors and directors had high expectations of Bale. It makes sense that Bale would expect the same from the crew... and that guy wasn't some green PA -- he knew better, but just didn't care.
20Thank you willowdiamond for your enlightenment.
I still don't see the attraction to him or just Batman in general..
21Who HASN'T ever flipped out at someone? I'd like to meet that person, because it happens to all of us. Sometimes you just have to swear and yell until it is out of your system. I'm sure he apologized to the guy after it happened months ago. Nobody is perfect, we all get angry sometimes.
22He sounds crazy. A couple of f-bombs might be one thing, but this is nuts.
23ewww...i'm kind of off him now. i used to admire him, the looks and talent but the whole thing was disgusting and i can't believe how long it went on for. he's definitely got some issues.
24well, it was hilarious to listen to either way
25And I think this is just damage control. I don't believe he's being sincere -- if he was he would have apologized to the guy, publicly -- just like he humiliated him.
26I don't care about him anymore -- I'm only torn between watching or not Public Enemies: I love Depp, I can't stand Bale.
27That radio station is so ghetto. Same with that AICN geek defending Bale because ofcourse he cares more about the free passes he gets from all studios for movie screenings.
Bale apologized only because he got caught. This was not the 1st time and it happened a lot with many fans encounters of his but the media let it slide.
28If he does not get help for rage issues this will happen again.
willowdiamond - Oh heck naw! Everyone knows he's mah husband! J/K... kind of...
"It has also been reported that he apologized to the entire crew soon after the incident. He is in no way obligated to apologize to the public, SIX months after the issue has been resolved amongst the people that were actually involved."
popdiva - I wholeheartedly agree with you. If he apologized to everyone involved soon after then I don't know that anyone else should really be bothered.
But if he wants to make it up to me personally, I'm game. Mmm-hmm.
29Woop, I'll make you divorce him and marry Colin Firth
-- I mean, I'm afraid to visit you
guys and be yelled at!
30Bottom line: Bale needs help. My gut feeling tells he will have another victim. He only apologized because he got caught like the team of Obama with their taxes and that lady nominee the day she was supposedly to be elected her husband paid Uncle Sam what he owes only because she's going to be elected into office. She dropped out.
31eve - What the f*** are you DOING?! You're ruining my scene by making me think of Colin Firth!
32He went batsh*t nuts on that crew guy. I'm sorry, but it seems as though he has a huge case of holier-than-thou because of it. I understand that sometimes people have a breakdown and freak out, but I don't think it was the case. I don't think he needs to be forgiven or not forgiven, I just think someone should say "next time, act like an adult" and move on. He doesn't deserve even more publicity because of his harshness.

34eveday Bale can take classy lessons from Colin Firth. I told many stories here before about Bale's madness even at the set of BB and TDK. Superherohype site-forums even has photos of Bale cussing and giving a female fan the finger while almost getting into a fight with the husband who demanded his apology but it was ignored here like gossip until this happened. His family incident, the NY Post diva Bale on 3:10 to Yuma and on Public Enemies why do you think the fans and crew love Depp not Bale. Some insiders even said he didnt like Marion Cotillard. Gyllenhaal said she enjoyed Eckhart but Bale isolated himself from them.
35Bale's anger problems will not go away unless he seeks professional help.
People should be forgiven but in this case he needs counselling. That is more admirable and manly than anything else when you admit you have a problem and deal with it. Some of you here and the media treated Cruise like a serial killer when this is America the land of the free and religious freedom comes with it but druggies,DUI,abusers, adulterers, etc even Americans wonna give human rights easily to terrorists but why the double standard on Cruise? Bale & others gets an easy pass too.
36x17 weeks before also had Bale cussing out a fan and photog and about to cause trouble. I laugh when he says are you professional to this Shane guy same way he told the fan in the restaurant do you know manners?
Bale is the one who needs lessons in manners and professionalism.
we are all human and you never know, that guy could really have been annoying him for a long time...we have no idea what kind of pressure Christian is under. He is an excellent actor and we have seen other actors do way worse...leave him alone. He apologized - move on.
37Superherohype site-forums even has photos of Bale cussing and giving a female fan the finger while almost getting into a fight with the husband who demanded his apology but it was ignored here like gossip until this happened.
I heard about that too.
@ Woop, come on...look at Colin's kind eyes -- look at that calm yet intense warmth in his brown eyes
38I forgive him but I wont forget. He still scares me.
Reports last year from BBC and E news about his marital problems does not surprise me anymore. I feel sorry for his wife, daughter and I hope he doesn't have a dog.
39I cant hear the recording on my work computer, but Im SURE he does sound very modest and apologetic. He's an actor, after all, and a good one at that. Regardless, that rant coupled with those assault allegations brought by his mom and his sister last year?? Im sorry, but he's just plain scary.
40...and I hope he doesn't have a dog.
41Christian Bale is freakin great no matter what anyone says. I totally agree that he doesn't need to apologize to the public. It was one incident that the media totally blew up. Anyone who takes it to offense and condemns him for it is out of place. These folks should mind their own business and be more open minded before putting judgment on a someone else. I support Christian all the way, I'm going to watch Batman again just remind myself why he's so great.
42It's one thing to lose your temper, get angry, etc, it's another to rant and rave and threaten violence for about 4 minutes. That's why I don't get the "well the other guy screwed up" line of thinking. Even if he did, it doesn't mean you lose your mind and behave like that for such a long period of time. It's disturbing.
Oh well, Bale shouldn't worry so much about Terminator ticket sales. I'm sure they'll probably go up after this! America loves bad behavior followed by a good apology.
43Eve - What don't you f***ing understand? You got any idea about "Hey! It's f***ing distracting having someone commenting about Colin Firth in the middle of a f***ing Bale thread"?
44thats verbal abuse
45i dont care who he is he had no right to do that.
i think he should seek help for his rage because its not healthy at all
Woop, that's because I'm f*cking evil! Can you f*cking get that now?
46LOL at Woop and Moviequeen. ChloeZ all superhero actors and actors are replaceable and Americans like trash too. Look at MallCop unbeatable at the box office or those Bride War movies. Im betting this isn't the last of his lunacy especially he does not acknowledge his problem and seeks help. Its more interesting what kind of A listers and directors will work with him and Bale likely cost his future Oscar chances by being a thug.
Its nice he eat some humble pies but he just hyped up his so called intense emotional scene in Terminator. Must be Oscar worthy.
47It's not my place to forgive him. He is an actor, and does not owe me an apology for that incident. I do think though that it might benefit him to work on his temper. But I'll still enjoy his movies because he's a good actor.
48He's sorry because it was caught on tape.
49I think he should be forgiven for his actions. He sincerely apologized for his actions and explained the reasons behind it. Yes, his behavior was inexcusable but you can tell he was going through a lot last summer and he just cracked. Plus, Christian is a "method" actor and likes to get into the head of his characters, as he acknowledged, so I can see why he went a little crazy but he took it too far. From now on, I think he should "go method" in happier and more light-hearted roles like in Newsies, Little Women, The New World, etc.
(as much as I love the Batman movies and American Psycho)
