The Famous Women Who Have Bravely Shared Their Health Struggles

In her moving op-ed today, Angelina Jolie revealed that she had a preventive double mastectomy after learning she was at high risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

In her moving op-ed today, Angelina Jolie revealed that she had a preventive double mastectomy after learning she was at high risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Other women who might be at risk motivated the actress and activist to speak out about her private health decision. Angelina wrote: "Cancer is still a word that strikes fear into people's hearts, producing a deep sense of powerlessness. But today it is possible to find out through a blood test whether you are highly susceptible to breast and ovarian cancer, and then take action."

As Angelina's message of prevention and empowerment spreads across the Internet, she's not the only famous woman to generously share her health struggles. Christina Applegate and Wanda Sykes have discussed mastectomies. Others like Beyoncé Knowles and Nicole Kidman sacrificed some privacy to add to the conversation about miscarriages, while women like Gwyneth Paltrow and Brooke Shields have helped increase acceptance of postpartum depression. Whether about mental illness, fertility struggles, or cancer, when recognized and accomplished celebrities open up, it helps raise awareness and understanding about the health issues that impact women. Read through for quotes from some of these brave women now.

Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate headed to the set of Anchorman: The Legend Continues in Atlanta this week, and they were joined by an exciting new member of the cast — Harrison Ford! Ford joins the sequel playing a veteran newscaster, but not much else is known about the role. The movie won't hit theaters until December, but seeing Ferrell suited up as Ron Burgundy again is enough to hold me over for a bit. Check out all the pictures of the cast on set!

Christina Applegate Thinks Her Daughter May Be Overexposed to Santa Before Christmas

Is it possible to be too into Santa Claus?

Is it possible to be too into Santa Claus? Christina Applegate paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel last night to talk about her hit show Up All Night and revealed that 22-month-old Sadie is currently obsessed with the jolly old man in the red stocking cap. It seems that Sadie talks about Santa so much now that her mama is afraid her daughter will be over him before Christmas even arrives. Check out Christina talking about the situation — and the word she uses to describe it — as well as how she and her castmates handle all of the kids on the set of their show.

Christina Applegate Does It Up New Jack Swing Style For SNL

Up All Night's Christina Applegate is hitting the Saturday Night Live stage this weekend to host for the second time — her first time on the stage was in 1993.

Up All Night's Christina Applegate is hitting the Saturday Night Live stage this weekend to host for the second time — her first time on the stage was in 1993. As highlighted in her promos with Jason Sudeikis, a lot has changed since then. The two wax poetic about the good old times in '93, when Sudeikis was only 5 years old (or not) and Applegate was already on a hit show, Married With Children. All of this is a precursor to the last moments when they suddenly turn into J. Suds and Xtina Apple G., their new-jack-swing alter egos.

Applegate will be joined by musical guest Passion Pit, and you can watch her promos after the jump.
