Xavier Samuel brought his girlfriend, Shermine Shahrivar, along last night for a party held at the LA Louis Vuitton shop. He spent the evening with lots of other gorgeous ladies, including Kristen Bell and Mad Men's January Jones in all black. Xavier's out on the West Coast after spending time in NYC, where he explored the city solo between PDA-filled outings with Shermine. January, meanwhile, was back to her blond self after wearing a red wig for a photo shoot, as she preps for the debut of the next season of her series to start on July 25.

Kate Hudson had another weekend off from working on Something Borrowed, and she spent her Saturday with Ryder, who was in one of his favorite superhero tees, and her friend's small baby. Kate was back on the set today to film on a Queens beach with John Krasinski, Colin Egglesfield, and Ginnifer Goodwin. The cast previously shot out in the Hamptons, but this time they stuck closer to their home base of Manhattan. The gang worked on a badminton scene, with John even giving us a glimpse at his hot stomach without going fully shirtless.

Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin were on the NYC set of Something Borrowed well into the late hours of last night. The girls played host to birthday boy Justin Long earlier in the day, and at some point Ginnifer's Big Love costar Chloe Sevigny also stopped by to say a quick hello. Kate also found time to fit in a workout, and she was spotted leaving her gym with a bottle of water in hand — staying hydrated is one of the tricks Kate uses to keep her abs looking toned. Today she took a solo stroll around the Big Apple with her phone, which might be of particular importance in her rumored new romance with Muse singer Matt Bellamy.

Kate Hudson and her Something Borrowed costar Colin Egglesfield brought their production to the beach in the Hamptons yesterday. The pair goofed around together on the sand, stopping to kiss, and he showed off his hot abs while tossing around a football. Their fellow actors in the movie Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski had the day off after they worked together earlier in the week. John in particular has been taking advantage of the location, bringing his dog to splash around in the water. Colin was all about his movie at the moment, as his small-screen series Melrose Place was just officially canceled.

John Krasinski spent yesterday away from the set of Something Borrowed, instead heading to the beach in the Hamptons to play fetch with his dog. He logged a few hours in front of the camera earlier in the week with one of his leading ladies, Ginnifer Goodwin, who spent her afternoon continuing to work with Kate Hudson and Colin Egglesfield. The girls laughed it up in the midst of Kate's kissing scene, which is less risque than some of her other recent onscreen moments, though Ms. Hudson says she's comfortable in most situations. John's real-life love, Emily Blunt, meanwhile, spent her day over in France, where she joined other celebs making the party rounds at Cannes.

Getting the boot from Melrose Place may just be the best thing that's ever happened to Colin Egglesfield. The guy formerly known as Auggie has just signed on for the buzzed-about adaptation of the chick lit novel Something Borrowed, opposite Ginnifer Goodwin and John Krasinski. Egglesfield will play Dex, the main guy whom the story's lead, Rachel White, carries on an affair with — and he just also happens to be her BFF's fiance.

I'll admit I'm fairly shocked by this casting. Egglesfield didn't seem like the strongest actor on Melrose, and now he's getting thrown into a hefty movie with bigger names. Someone must have had a very good audition, indeed.

Ashley Greene was in NYC last night to celebrate her December Maxim spread at the club Avenue. She gushed about the cover, saying, "I absolutely adore it and I don't think it could have come out any better for me. I'm very much a Jacksonville beach girl. I love jean shorts, T-shirts, the beach." It's been a busy week for Ashley, even though the rest of her New Moon costars are taking things easy after their successful box office debut. She was in an interesting outfit from Bottega Veneta's resort collection for her Monday appearance on the Late Show, where she opened up about being an accident prone child. Ashley's dedicated to doing as much promotion as she can for her blockbuster movie, but hopefully she'll settle in for the next few days to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Just two months after Melrose Place's debut comes the news that the producers are looking to make over the low-rated series — which means that both Ashlee Simpson and Colin Egglesfield are out.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, executive producers Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin reveal that Simpson was always supposed to leave after episode 12. Quiet-but-psycho Violet and recovering alcoholic Auggie will depart with the Sydney murder mystery (which must mean that one of them is definitely the murderer, right?) in January. The hope is to make the show lighter and more fun after the homicide is wrapped up, and though they're losing two characters, several new ones will show up, including Heather Locklear's Amanda Woodward and a new doctor in the complex.
