Do You Believe in Breaking in Your Running Shoes?

I wear my running shoes around the house for a couple of days before hitting the pavement and taking them for a run. Sugar user and veteran triathlete runningesq thinks I need to stop promoting the notion that running shoes need a break-in period. She says they should be ready from day one. What about you all.

I just bought a new pair of (very expensive!) running shoes yesterday. They feel great but I'm going to try them out on the treadmill before I head outside. I hope this will do for any breaking-in they might need and if there is something really wrong with the fit I can take them back.

I think there's a fine distinction. I agree that you do not need to break them in. But I also wouldn't go out on a 10 mile run in brand new shoes without at least wearing them on a 3 mile run first, unless they're the exact same model as shoes you've previously used.

I decided to run a half marathon at the very last minute. Since I was out of town I didn't have my running shoes with me. I decided to buy some brand new New Balances at the expo the day before. It was the best race I ever had! If they're good shoes, they'll be their best on day one.
