Do you buy Christmas gifts for your coworkers?

This is inspired by RCL's poll yesterday. Last year I was a total scrooge and I didn't buy gifts for my team at work. This year I have the Christmas spirit and have already started getting stuff to give my team. Do you buy the people you work closely with Christmas presents?

I don't have any co-workers now, but what I used to do is go to bath and body works on sale days and buy a lot of those little creams and antibacterial. You could get like 5 for $10...I would bundle 2 or 3 in nice cellophane paper and give it to them! Who doesn't like creams?!

I don't have co-workers anymore but the last place I worked did Secret Santa which was nice.

The first year at my job, I did do gifts, and everyone kind of looked at me like I was crazy, so now I just do cards for my immediate co-workers. I have become good friends with one girl there, so I do buy her actual gifts. Last year the office did a White Elephant and I'll bet we'll do it again...the funny thing is some of the random crappy stuff, people actually start to fight over!

no. that was always frowned on for some reason. however, we did go out for happy hour and buy each other drinks, it was sort of expected :cocktail: a couple of times during the holiday season.

I buy for the guys and girls at the studio. Other than that, not really.

i always give my boss something, and one girl i'm good friends with. other than that, i work with too many people, so i usually bake something and bring it in for everyone to enjoy.

It really depended on were I worked. Sometimes we didn't exchange gifts at all. Other places we did like a Secret Santa thing. And lastly, at other jobs...we would just give small little gift bags, like above...with assorted cookies or whatever inside.

Liquor is my go to when it's someone's birthday or for wrap gifts. I have so many bottles of wine from working in production!

I love the liquor idea! I do always get my supervisor something or bake them something.

Yeah, I do. We all give each other liquor. I give liquor to my coworkers & boss, & they give me liquor. Its nice. I end up with a few bottles of booze. I work for a small office though.

Nope, I never had. But I buy some little gifts to my colleague teachers that are my friends also.

If I could afford it I would, but over the years my family has expanded so freaking much it is going to be a challenge. Like PK, I went the baked goods route last year and made a bunch of holiday cookies and candies to gift people not in my immediate circle. I will probably do something similar this year as well.

Well, when we do our White Elephant, we actually buy stuff that people will like. Although I've heard about the kind where you bring really crappy stuff and that sounds like fun too.

:rotfl: Moto! Joe got women's panties once in a white elephant. They were size 4x.

I might if I worked and liked the people with whom I worked. When I was a nerd at the NAAL, we did the white elephant exchange thing. I wrapped up a toilet bowl brush and a big tube of toothpaste, but apparently I was the only one who found it amusing.

Nope. I can barely afford to buy things for my children. Plus none of the girls I work with would help me out and work Halloween evening for me (so they could go party) and I couldn't take my kids out trick or treating. :raspberry: I know it's all about the season of giving but they are not getting squat from me.

Phasekitty, I hear you about the teacher gifts. My sister is a grade school teacher, and she said there's only so much lotions, candles and knick knacks that they can handle! She said the teachers really like getting gift cards, especially to places like Target or even those school supply stores. Those they can actually use. So I'll be getting those for my son's teachers this year. As far as co-workers, when I used to work (I"m a SAHM now) we always did a Secret Santa gift exchange for those who wanted to participate, and it was really fun.

Last year I baked a bunch of different Christmas cookies and some fudge and wrapped them up in little packages with Christmas cards for all my co-workers. Does that count? On a side note- my mom's a teacher and always gives out gifts to her parents that help her out and stuff because she's constantly unloading the stuff she gets from her kids on holidays and at the end of the year. It's a really funny cycle- the amount of candles, bath product, and just general stuff that she's accumulated through 25 years of teaching has given her gifts for everyone she knows for the rest of her life! She just have to be careful not to give back something that a parent gave to her! :rotfl:

Not really, but we do a White Elephant gift exchange every year. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's the same as the Yankee Swap that they did on the Office. For those of you who STILL don't know what that is, and who don't watch the Office, tough titty. :raspberry:
