Dressing Up at Work

These Heels Were Made For Workin'

My New Year's resolution: dress more professionally at work — and that includes wearing heels! That may not sound difficult, but let me tell you: walking up and down the hilly San Francisco streets can be a pain — literary! My feet are killing me.

I'm starting kind of late, but so far I've worn heels everyday this week. And besides a few compliments thrown my way, I can really feel the heels work wonders for my posture and toning my legs (thanks, Mr. Louboutin and Mrs. Miu Miu!). I wonder if being in shape can really be an advantage over your average-size co-workers.

Do you think dressing better will help your status at work?

I love this idea. I am also going to try to dress more professionally at work, if my budget allows it. Any tips on where to dress for success for less? As far as the heels go, they do make your legs look great, but you can also find nice flats that compliment your wardrobe. I have flat feet, and I've finally come to terms with the fact that I just can't wear heels comfortably, especially in San Francisco! I've been able to find some nice, comfortable flat options....you might want to try the same.

Kudos to you! I need to follow suit and sport this sophisticated style. Love the way heels look, but not sure my feet could handle it daily. I think I'll start with once a week (baby steps). ;)

"Clinically, patients with low back pain may be affected by high heel usage because of the reduction of the normal lumbar lordosis." J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 1995 Feb;21(2):94-9. Effect of positive heel inclination on posture. Franklin ME, Chenier TC, Brauninger L, Cook H, Harris S. that's all i've found so far. i'm sure if you look it up, you'll find more

i agree dressing more professionally can help you perform better. if you dress the part, you'll act it! BUT! heels are actually REALLY REALLY bad for your feet and posture! well, i have no scientific evidence to back it up, but a lot of health sites report it based on evidence they've found......... so be careful!

I really think dressing more put-together can really help you at work. Most people tend to dress super casual at work (when it's allowed) so if you look professional - you'll DEFINITELY stand out in a good way!

Heels can be beautiful and also enlighten a look. But I just can't, I know how to walk with them but it costs me: days of pain!
