I found this recipe in the Summer 2010 Penzeys Spices catalog. Since the recent focus over at YumSugar as of late has been the deliciousness that is the burger, I thought that this recipe would be postworthy. It's on my to-try list! However, when I do whip these up I will opt for fresh seasonings wherever possible. This recipe will serve four hungry burger fiends, no bacon required.
EASY INDIAN BURGERS
1 1/2 lb. ground turkey or ground lean beef (we used 1 lb. ground turkey and 1/2 lb. beef)
2-4 Tablespoons minced, dried white onion
1-3 Tablespoons minced, dried garlic
1/4 cup water
1-2 Tablespoon sweet curry powder
1 teaspoon dried cilantro
1/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
2 teaspoons crystallized ginger, chopped (optional)
Cover the minced white onion and minced garlic with the water for five minutes. Drain off any excess liquid and combine the onions and garlic with the ground meat, curry powder and cilantro. Mix well and form four into patties. Grill or broil just short of your preferred degree of doneness, turning once. Put 1 tablespoon of peanut butter atop each patty, cover the grill, and finish grilling or broiling to your preferred degree of doneness--at least another minute to soften and warm the peanut butter. Chop the crystallized ginger into small bits and sprinkle atop the peanut butter topping for the final minute of cooking if desired.
