Is there any landmark as widely photographed as the Eiffel Tower? Today Paris, France turns 2,000 years old, so to celebrate the city's birthday, we're looking at its most iconic structure from every season, at every angle. The Eiffel Tower was completed 125 years ago on March 31, 1889. Designed by engineer and architect Gustave Eiffel, the tower took two years, two months, and five days to complete. Although it was originally intended to be dismantled after 20 years, the tower's use as a wireless telegraph transmitter allowed it to remain standing, and it's been visited by nearly 250 million people since it opened. Today the Eiffel Tower attracts almost seven million people annually, and each night, 20,000 lightbulbs glow as it sparkles in the Paris skyline. In honor of the city's birthday, take a look at these breathtaking pictures of the Eiffel Tower.
