The Oxford Murders Trailer: Murder by Numbers

Remember when Elijah Wood was a nerdy high school kid trying to track down a murderous alien in The Faculty?

Remember when Elijah Wood was a nerdy high school kid trying to track down a murderous alien in The Faculty? Well he's taking another stab at playing a student trying to solve a mystery in the new thriller The Oxford Murders. Wood stars as a grad student who discovers a dead woman's body and sets out to uncover her murderer with help from his logic professor (John Hurt). To give them clues, the killer is marking each of his victims with symbols for the teacher and pupil to decipher — before he adds even more innocent people to his tally.

Normally a movie like this would give me the heebie-jeebies, but I'm intrigued by the mathematical component (whatever, call me a nerd). After making the rounds overseas, the film is finally getting distribution in the US Aug. 6. Watch the preview when you read more

Elijah Wood Travels Through Time With Apples in Stereo

If you saw me at my desk this afternoon then you would no doubt notice all the chair dancing I'm doing to the new Apples in Stereo song, "Dance Floor."

If you saw me at my desk this afternoon then you would no doubt notice all the chair dancing I'm doing to the new Apples in Stereo song, "Dance Floor." Besides being recorded with retro-futuristic instruments like vocoders, vintage keyboards, and Mellotrons, the video is all sorts of geeky. In it, actor Elijah Wood plays a middle school science teacher (corduroy jacket, sweater vest, and all!) who travels through time. We get a glimpse of wormholes, a really dorky Elijah playing with chemistry flasks and math equations, and a pretty techy microphone, too. Elijah, who signed Apples in Stereo to his music label Simian Records, also filmed a cute public access-esque science show that acts as a companion to the music video.

OK Elijah. Because it wasn't enough that you already saved Middle-Earth, you're also a time traveling "Science Show Host of the Year"? Be still my geeky heart. Check out the video after the break.

BuzzWorthy Video: Elijah Wood Sings With Apples in Stereo

Elijah Wood is really immersing himself in the music scene.

Elijah Wood is really immersing himself in the music scene. Not only does the actor own a record label, but he also continues to lend his talents to one of its acts, The Apples in Stereo. After directing a video for the group's track "Energy," now he's stepping in front of the camera for a catchy tune titled "Dance Floor," off their new album to be released later this month.

In the music video, Wood plays a science teacher who goofs with a time machine and lands in an Apples in Stereo performance. The beginning reminds me of Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep, but once Wood joins the band, it becomes a cute, tangerine-colored sing-a-long (nice shades, Robert Schneider). I'm digging it, but let me know your thoughts when you read more

Movie Preview: Holmes, Duhamel, and More in The Romantics

After seeing Valentine's Day last month, my faith in ensemble romantic comedies hit an all-time low.

After seeing Valentine's Day last month, my faith in ensemble romantic comedies hit an all-time low. Luckily, The Romantics, which stars a slew of favorites including Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, and Katie Holmes, may be just the pick-me-up I need. The movie centers around seven close friends who reunite for Tom (Josh Duhamel) and Lila's (Anna Paquin) wedding. Of course, problems arise when old feelings quickly come to light — most notably between Tom and maid of honor Laura (Katie Holmes).

Malin Akerman, Adam Brody, and Elijah Wood also appear, providing comic relief or adding more fuel to the romantic fire as the case may be. (Look out for a cameo from Glee's Dianna Agron as well.) The trailer seems to give away a lot of the story (don't they always?) but I'm already digging the chemistry between the all-star cast. Plus, the fact that there's only one story line for all the stars (instead of disjointed paths that conveniently intersect) definitely works in favor of the genre. Anna Kendrick joined the crowd at last night's Art of Elysium party at Palihouse Holloway in LA. She kept warm in her white coat for the second night in a row as she takes in all the pre-Oscar mania. This time she was joined by a super pink Amy Smart and silky Nicky Hilton, as well as a more casually dressed Topher Grace. Anna, who is building "freak out" time into her weekend itinerary, was representing this year's Academy Award nominees as the rest were scattered throughout the city at all the different soirees. In a few short days we'll see if the red carpet newcomer joins the ranks of iconic Oscar gowns or even takes home a win against all the predictions. Who do you think will become the proud owners of little gold men? Enter our Oscar ballot contest now!

Elijah Wood and Shirley Manson Are Bored on Sundays, in Oliver Peoples Shades

We may admire some Fab ads, but if you really want to stand apart, produce a charming minimovie with random celebrities — Garbage's Shirley Manson, Elijah Wood — bored on Sundays.

We may admire some Fab ads, but if you really want to stand apart, produce a charming minimovie with random celebrities — Garbage's Shirley Manson, Elijah Wood — bored on Sundays. Frenchly named "Les enfants sennuient le dimanche" (the children are bored on Sundays), this wonderfully adorable, Royal Tenenbaums-esque movie, narrated by a simple guitar riff, is thoroughly amusing. Watch the couple sip Rosé, play golf (sorta), swim (sorta), kiss (sorta), and lounge around in retro gowns and dapper suits. All the while wearing Oliver Peoples's latest specs. Directed by Autumn de Wilde, it's wildly fabulous and not boring at all.

The Sundance Film Festival rolled on today with Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Adam Brody heading out for a screening of The Romantics.

The Sundance Film Festival rolled on today with Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Adam Brody heading out for a screening of The Romantics. A few of their costars, like Anna Paquin and Dianna Agron, missed out on this afternoon's premiere and last night's big party, though both actresses turned out for last Saturday's SAG Awards. Josh Duhamel had his wife Fergie by his side in the theater, but Katie was rolling solo as her husband Tom is back in LA continuing to work on Knight and Day and do some impressive stunts all on his own.

Katie Uses Her Extra Time to Promote The Romantics at Sundance

Katie Holmes spent her first days at Sundance supporting her film The Extra Man with a special screening, but last night she switched gears to focus on her other movie debuting at the festival.

Katie Holmes spent her first days at Sundance supporting her film The Extra Man with a special screening, but last night she switched gears to focus on her other movie debuting at the festival. She was in a tan shirt and black scarf to celebrate The Romantics along with many of her costars like Elijah Wood, Malin Akerman, and Adam Brody. Josh Duhamel was able to take a break from his travels on behalf of When in Rome — make sure to check out Buzz's exclusive interview with Josh and Kristen Bell and enter CelebStyle's giveaway to win your own trip to the Italian capital! Fergie was also there to support her husband's new project, and she found a minute to mingle with Katie during their evening out.

The semiannual Art of Elysium charity bash took place in LA last night, with starlets like Emilie de Ravin, who wore Casadei, Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson, Lindsay Lohan, and Ashley Olsen getting decked for the red carpet. Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth, and Kirsten Dunst also attended last year's event, which benefits the organization designed to help children battling serious medical conditions. Happy couples were all over the place — engaged duo Katy Perry and Russell Brand couldn't contain their affection as they enjoyed a little PDA at the table. Katy opened up about their upcoming wedding and said, "We're actually very go with the flow, both of us. Yeah, we love each other and we desperately want to be with each other, so we're going to take it as we come."

The also soon-to-be-married True Blood couple Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer hung out nearby, while Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick represented the Gossip Girl gang. Jenna Dewan looked gorgeous in her sparkly gown — she said she was encouraged to wear it after her husband Channing Tatum said, "When you look that good, you might as well show it off!" Olivia Wilde, who's been one of the many celebs active in getting relief to Haiti through her Twitter updates, made the rounds with husband Tao Ruspoli. Katy took a break from gazing at her man to chat with Nicole, Rachel, and Amber Heard, as the ladies of Hollywood enjoyed another opportunity to hang out after Thursday's Golden Globes luncheon. The big weekend culminates in tonight's big show, so make sure check in with us later as we cover things live from the scene!
