Prince Avalanche Trailer: Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch Are an Odd Couple

Prince Avalanche is one of the indie gems that has been making the festival circuit (Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca), and now we've got a trailer for the film.

Prince Avalanche is one of the indie gems that has been making the festival circuit (Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca), and now we've got a trailer for the film. Paul Rudd goes against type (and sports a mustache!) to play Alvin, an uptight road worker who is spending some time in the middle of nowhere with his girlfriend's little brother Lance (Emile Hirsch). Painting lines on the road doesn't prove to be as rewarding for Lance, though, whom Alvin deems to be mentally slow.

The trailer for Prince Avalanche seams to blend Alvin's dry humor perfectly with Lance's goofiness. It's especially refreshing to see Hirsch being the oddball and Rudd the straight man, since it feels like a departure for both actors. The film will be released Aug. 9, but watch the trailer when you read more

Twice Born Trailer: Emile Hirsch and Penelope Cruz Are War-Torn Lovers

Director Sergio Castellitto proves you don't need dialogue to create a powerful snapshot of a film in the trailer for Twice Born, an Italian movie premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Director Sergio Castellitto proves you don't need dialogue to create a powerful snapshot of a film in the trailer for Twice Born, an Italian movie premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie stars Penelope Cruz as a single mother traveling back to Sarajevo with her adolescent son. It's the setting where the boy's father (Emile Hirsch), an American photographer, was killed during the Bosnian conflict in the 1990s. The mostly wordless trailer shows the film will be set both in the time when Cruz and Hirsch's characters are together and years later when their son is grown.

I'm constantly surprised to see where Emile Hirsch pops up on the silver screen, and given the dual time lines, I'll be interested to see whether the film will follow a chronological format or bounce back and forth through the decades. Either way, this is sure to be an emotional ride. Check out the trailer for Twice Born after the jump.

Blake and Salma Go Supersexy For Savages

Blake Lively and Salma Hayek were a pair of stunning visions at their LA premiere of Savages on Monday evening.

Blake Lively and Salma Hayek were a pair of stunning visions at their LA premiere of Savages on Monday evening. Blake channeled Old Hollywood in Zuhair Murad gown, while Salma showed off her curves in green. The two ladies were joined by their costars for the Oliver Stone drama, including Taylor Kitsch, Mary-Louise Parker, and Emile Hirsch. John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, also hit the red carpet together, not showing any signs of stress despite all the recent drama surrounding their family. Blake was without her man Ryan Reynolds, though the two are going strong and were spotted shopping outside NYC together last week. The actress will soon be starting work on her final season of Gossip Girl, but she's already lining up her next high-profile projects: this week Blake was named the face of Gucci fragrance.

Killer Joe Trailer: Matthew McConaughey Is a Hit Man For Hire

I'm so used to seeing Matthew McConaughey in romantic comedy mode, so it's a bit disconcerting to see him as a cold-blooded killer as the titular character in the trailer for Killer Joe.

I'm so used to seeing Matthew McConaughey in romantic comedy mode, so it's a bit disconcerting to see him as a cold-blooded killer as the titular character in the trailer for Killer Joe. Emile Hirsch plays Chris, a man so desperate for money that he decides to have his mother (Gina Gershon) killed so he can collect the insurance money. He calls on hit man Joe, but since he doesn't have the cash for the deposit, he uses his sister (Juno Temple) as collateral. As you can tell from Hirsch's bloody face, the arrangement doesn't play out super smoothly, and it's not just Chris's mom who's in danger.

Though the movie is billed as a black comedy, there aren't too many jokes in the preview, but there is as much violence as you'd expect for a movie about a contract killer. I'm assuming the film itself will be pretty graphic, since it recently earned an NC-17 rating (and it's from William Friedkin, director of The Exorcist). Killer Joe comes out June 27, and you can see the trailer when you read more.

Penelope Cruz Get Amore From Italian Fans and Her Venuto al Mondo Director

Penelope Cruz, Emile Hirsch and their Venuto al Mondo director Sergio Castellitto were on hand in Italy today for the Rome Film Festival.

Penelope Cruz, Emile Hirsch and their Venuto al Mondo director Sergio Castellitto were on hand in Italy today for the Rome Film Festival. The cast took part in a loved up photocall, where Sergio planted a kiss on Penelope's cheek, then headed into a panel discussion about their project. The actors were seated next to each other during the question and answer session while an Italian occasionally leaned in to help translate. Penelope and Emile have been filming on location throughout Europe over the past two months, and Penelope's taken advantage of the exotic destinations to explore new cities with her favorite guys Leo and Javier Bardem.

Penelope Cruz Gets Silly, Then Serious on Set!

Penelope Cruz struck a variety of funny poses yesterday while on the Rome set of Venuto al Mondo.

Penelope Cruz struck a variety of funny poses yesterday while on the Rome set of Venuto al Mondo. She threw her hands in the air, gave herself a mustache with her hair, and signaled for everyone to hush during the silly photo shoot with her director Sergio Castellitto. Later on, Penelope changed out of the light dress and into a black suit for more serious scenes with her costar Emile Hirsch. Penelope and Javier Bardem's son Leo is in Italy with them during production on the film, and the family of three was seen enjoying some of the local cuisine just a few days ago. The next set Leo visits may be one of Javier's. The happy new dad just confirmed that he'll star in the next James Bond and shooting that action piece is expected to start later this year.

As filming continued, the scene turned into a fight with Penelope struggling to throw Emile's cigarette into the water. Penelope's been working on the project since last month and her husband Javier Bardem and son Leo have joined her on location. Penelope and Javier had lunch with baby Leo over the weekend during a break from production. It wasn't the only family time Penelope's had during her overseas stay, since her sister Monica and her boyfriend Alex Gonzalez visited the actress in Italy just last week.

The Darkest Hour Trailer: When Aliens Attack Emile Hirsch

The trailer for The Darkest Hour starts off like a music video: we see a bunch of twentysomethings (including Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, and Rachael Taylor), head to Moscow where they take in gorgeous scenery by day and party it up with beautiful people by night.

The trailer for The Darkest Hour starts off like a music video: we see a bunch of twentysomethings (including Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, and Rachael Taylor), head to Moscow where they take in gorgeous scenery by day and party it up with beautiful people by night. The dream becomes a nightmare however, when Moscow is attacked by a mysterious species that starts sucking up all the energy and electricity they can. Thus begins a face-off, led by Hirsch, to protect our planet.

If the premise sounds silly, it's because it is — there's really nothing new here other than the Russian setting and a new crop of faces, but overall, The Darkest Hour looks like a slicker version of your typical teen horror movie. It does look pretty stylish though, so maybe we've got a fun popcorn movie on our hands. To watch the trailer, just read more
