The 21 Most Powerful Pictures From the Ferguson October Protests

It's been just over two months since 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, MO, and over the past few days, more than a thousand people gathered in the city to protest. The planned Weekend of Resistance was part of a movement called Ferguson October, which protesters organized as an effort to speak out against police brutality. Along with Brown's tragic death this past August, another black St. Louis teen named Vonderrit Myers was killed by a police officer last week, prompting more protests throughout the city.

On what the Ferguson October movement dubbed Moral Monday, protesters and clergy leaders marched from a church to the Ferguson police department, and during one of the demonstrations, prominent activist and author Dr. Cornel West was arrested along with 10 clergy leaders and other activists who were also taken into custody. This weekend's protests come two weeks after the city's police chief apologized to the Brown family in a video announcement, saying, "No one, who has not experienced the loss of a child, can understand what you're feeling. I am truly sorry for the loss of your son." As Monday's demonstrations continue, see some of the most powerful, emotional pictures from the protests below.
