It's Funny Because We're White

Mitt Romney's son jokes about assaulting the president:

Mitt Romney's eldest son joked in a radio interview that he wanted to "take a swing" at President Barack Obama after Obama called his father a liar. "Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the stage and take a swing at him," Tagg said, laughing.

"But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process."

Yes because a good whippin' would teach that Obama boy to mind his place.

It's worth trying to imagine any black man associated with a credible black candidate for the presidency, joking about beating down the incumbent president of the United States.

Racism isn't just in what you do and don't say, but in the terrain you walk. It is baked in the cake -- a fact which is hard to understand when you are the party of white people.

Rick Santorum flatly accused Romney of "lying to the American people" about his positions on health care. Rick Perry devoted a campaign video to Romney's lies. Newt Gingrich called Romney a Swiss bank accountant owning liar. But no claims of violent urges from Tagg then...

And Hypno's right: the President hung Romney on his own words.

In some ways, the statement itself wasn't a big deal: once unimaginable public insults from other candidates, their family members, and leading opposition politicians, directed at President Obama, have become too commonplace to be a big deal. But it remains: this would have been a spectacularly big deal had the comment come from the son of a black candidate and been directed at a white president.

I didn't think the statement was a big deal. IMO people fueled by what ever feelings they have for Mitt made too much of it. It was a classic son sticking up for pops reference. No big deal. As for you and Tag...Undave. How the both of you can get ruffled over one calling Mitt Romney a liar when there is video proof of him saying what he says now he never said. Normal people call that a lie. The President references lines Romney stated in previous debates. It is documented so to suggest he President was actually liing means yall are in a state of fantasy. What's hilarious about Romney's responses is that he would fly out of his chair and say that' s not true. Given that the President was quoting him (he) Romney was there for confirming to all of us that he lied to us in the first place. I have never witnessed a comedy of errors as I have seen in Romney.

I'm sorry that you have such a warped view of the world that you see racism in every action, especially from a political opponent. It must be a very lonely and bitter world.

"It's only racism if the reason for wanting to take the swing is because of the person's color of skin." Wrong. It's racism if you normally wouldn't have voiced such a thought because even if you didn't like the president, regardless of color, you respected the office of the presidency. It's racism because a similar comment by a black candidate's son toward a white president would provoke serious outrage. Your last sentence is seriously funny.

If (and that's a big if) the President had been repeatedly making false statements regarding my dad, I'd feel the same way, regardless of who the President is. It's only racism if the reason for wanting to take the swing is because of the person's color of skin. That very clearly isn't the reason for the reaction, and this is a lame attempt to draw the masses away from the ass-kicking Romney has been giving to Obama this campaign.

Good lord can you even read Dave?!?! “It's worth trying to imagine any black man associated with a credible black candidate for the presidency, joking about beating down the incumbent president of the United States.” Try to imagine the reaction if Jesse Jackson’s son had ever made a comment like Tagg’s about a President Bush or Reagan. People like you would have gone nuclear.

Rotfl Only a libtard would construe that comment as racist. Listen to the rest of the interview, hack.
