Old Friends, Gossip Girl Paris, and More Shine at CW and Showtime TCA Day

The TCA rolled on with presentations from Showtime and The CW yesterday after their star-studded party the night before.

The TCA rolled on with presentations from Showtime and The CW yesterday after their star-studded party the night before. Showtime kicked off the morning with The Big C starring Laura Linney and Gabourey Sidibe. Laura spoke passionately about the show and her character, while Gabourey touched on how she still can't believe the past year of her life. The cast of Dexter brought a different tone, as Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and company gave us hints about Dexter's season five before he sat down with us for an exclusive chat. Last up for the network was Matt LeBlanc's Episodes, in which the Friends star plays a fictional version of himself taking on a new acting gig. The trailer was full of jokes about his beloved sitcom, including a Ross and Rachel reference early on. Matt was adorable on stage talking about getting recognized as Joey daily and when asked if he was the first pick for the part, he was quick to joke, "Schimmer said no. . .so did Perry and Lisa."

We spent the afternoon with The CW checking out their two new shows, Nikita with Shane West and Maggie Q, as well as Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka's Hellcats. Then it was time for the really fun stuff, moving onto Gossip Girl in Paris! Josh Schwartz took the stage with Ed Westwick, who represented the cast as the rest stayed behind in NYC to shoot and premiere Chace's movie Twelve. Ed was charming as always, though he gave the juiciest tidbits to us at Wednesday's bash. He and Josh revealed lots of exciting news including whether or not Taylor Momsen will return and who else will be making a comeback. There's still lots more to come, so stay tuned to Buzz on Twitter for updates from the panels!

Laura Linney and Gabourey Sidibe Shed Light on The Big C

Day 2 at the Summer TCA is all about Showtime and The CW, kicking things off with Showtime's new series The Big C.

Day 2 at the Summer TCA is all about Showtime and The CW, kicking things off with Showtime's new series The Big C. The show, which will premiere on Aug. 16 after Weeds, is a comedy about Cathy (Laura Linney), a teacher who changes her outlook on life when she learns that she has cancer. Rounding out the cast are Oliver Platt as her husband and Gabourey Sidibe as one of her sassier high school students. At today's panel, Linney described the general themes of the show, while Sidibe discussed her own life's lessons.

  • Linney, who's also the executive producer, explained that the show is not about cancer, but making the most of the time in your life. She said, "When this script came to me, what hit me the most was the theme of time. And what do you do with time? What are the choices that we make, how we spend our time. The fact that we all have a limited amount and that it's a privilege to grow old. And I think that's something that many people have forgotten in this fast-paced world."
  • Linney also gave some insight into who Cathy is: "She's a woman who doesn't really know who she is and she has the opportunity to find out. And she's going to take it. She's been functioning very, very well but she hasn't really been living."
  • Sidibe feels like she can relate to Cathy's life getting a jump start after her own crazy year following her star-making role in Precious. She said, "It's been a strange year. I thought I'd be a receptionist. I've always been middle of the lane, normal. I've always had a normal life and this is what I got! Being an actress wasn't planned at all. It just shows that whatever you've planned for your life, you're wrong."

Talk Turns to Twilight at the CBS TCA Party For Ed Westwick, AnnaLynne McCord, and More!

After a full day at the TCA panels, the stars of CBS, CW and Showtime stepped out for their star-studded bash.

After a full day at the TCA panels, the stars of CBS, CW and Showtime stepped out for their star-studded bash. Ed Westwick was a treat to chat with as he represented the Gossip Girl cast. He was eager to talk about the fate of Chuck Bass and even share his thoughts on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The cast of 90210 took a break from their busy Summers to attend as well. AnnaLynne McCord has had a great few months of traveling with her boyfriend Kellan Lutz, but it turns out that Eclipse wasn't her favorite blockbuster of the season — it's a tie between Inception and Iron Man 2 because of their two amazing lead actors! Her costar Matt Lanter has his own Twilight connection after appearing in the spoof Vampires Suck, and he revealed that he read the first of Stephenie Meyers's books "as research." Matt hasn't had the chance to meet Rob, but he would love to one day.

Jerry O'Connell, meanwhile, took a break from promoting The Defenders to gush about his life with the twins and wife, Rebecca Romijn. He says that being a dad of girls is the only way to go! David Duchovny and Ashley Tisdale also turned out for the celebration, and he's busy today with a panel for Californication, as she chats up her new show Hellcats — there's lots more to come, so stay tuned to Buzz on Twitter for updates from the panels!

The stars gathered in Washington DC on Saturday night for the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where Jay Leno served as the evening's entertainment when President Obama wasn't cracking up the crowd himself. Jessica Simpson hit the red carpet in a bright yellow dress, while Scarlett Johansson arrived from LA with her politically active twin brother, Hunter. Jessica Alba wrapped up her duties as a Tribeca Film Festival juror to go with her husband Cash Warren, and Kim Kardashian wore her mother's vintage Valentino gown after deciding to put her hair up in a bun.

After the dinner were the post-parties, with the Bloomberg/Vanity Fair bash at the French Ambassador's residence bringing out celebs like Anna Kendrick and Glee's Matthew Morrison. Joe Simpson left Jessica's side to mingle with Jeremy Renner, who was linked to Jess just a few months ago. Jessica expressed her love for Michelle Obama but didn't have much to say about her current romantic status, commenting, "I have some situations that I am feeling out." She moved on to an event sponsored by People to join Gabourey Sidibe. Sex and the City 2's Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, meanwhile, posed together, while Justin Bieber caught up with "his girlfriend" Kim. Jessica managed to avoid a run-in with her ex Tony Romo, who got a head start on the good times Friday night at an event with his girlfriend Candice Crawford and her famous brother, Chace.

Gabourey Sidibe Gets Andy Samberg to Drop His Pants

Allow me to introduce you to the Sambergs, aka Gabourey Sidibe and Andy Samberg.

Allow me to introduce you to the Sambergs, aka Gabourey Sidibe and Andy Samberg. Could there be a better comedic pairing? I think not. In these new promos for this week's Saturday Night Live, Sidibe aggressively comes on to Samberg, and a fake gun appears more than once. If this is what the episode has in store, then we're in for a fun, silly treat (I could definitely watch Samberg scream like a girl at least six more times). Give it a look when you read more
