Garner Gets Restraining Order Against Alleged Stalker

Jennifer Garner headed into a studio in LA yesterday afternoon while news broke of a scary situation for the actress and her family. Garner was recently granted a temporary restraining order against a man who has allegedly been stalking Jennifer since 2002. Garner made a declaration saying she worried for her and her family's safety especially during the past few years when he has repeatedly shown up at their house and followed her around the country.

In addition to her statement, she handed over many love letter and birthday cards from 36-year-old Steven Burky, and her security guard confirmed Burky tried repeatedly to approach Garner at events. The alleged stalker is now not allowed to go within 100 yards of Garner, her family, or staff. There will be a hearing later today to see if the restraining order will become permanent.

We can't imagine how scary this is for Jennifer and Ben especially with Violet and another baby on the way. Hopefully after tomorrow his harassment will soon be a distant memory for Jennifer and the rest of the Garner-Affleck family.

That is so scary! I hope that Jen and her family are okay. I read the documents on TMZ and she said that she was scared for the safety of herself, her husband, and her daughter. She also said, "I am currently pregnant and fear for the safety of my second child once born." By the way, Steven Burky is currently on 5150 psychiatric hold at a mental hospital. www.tmz.com/2008/11/19/jen-garner-fears-for-safety/ P.S. I think some of you are reading way into this. Undoubtedly this guy scares Jen, but I don't think thats the reason that she always carries Violet or Ben looks mad. They want to protect her from the paparazzi, not necessarily him...I doubt Steven Burky is going to harass them in the midst of 30 photogs.

That is terrifying..especially now that she has a kid and is pregnant..jeez..people are crazy!

You have to give them credit - they are not hiding at home because this nut case is out there. And Violet certainly has not learned any fear or tension from them - she is always smiling. But it does explain a lot - why Ben always seems to look so angry when paps are around, to the point where he even attacked one recently. Why they always carry her instead of just holding her hand. Why she tends to dress so loose and messy - what Do you wear if someone is atalking you? Of course, if covering up and dressing normal is the result of being stalked, I say we send the stalker after Posh.

I think this explains why she carries Violet all the time. She's braver than I am, I'd lock myself in my house until he was locked up! FREAK! I mean obviously the man is ill and needs help, so get it for him! LOL

when i think of restraining orders i think of Jennifer Lopez in enough. She contemplated getting one and says something along the lines of "so when he comes after me...do i just wave a piece of paper in his face". stalkers can be scary especially because..if they're crazy enough, what will this imaginary piece of paper do?

That must be terrifying, especially to have someone like that come to your house!! Yikes! I don't think that 100 yards is enough, and do those restrictions actually work? I feel like the law is inadequate for these kinds of things, but I don't know what can really be done to make things safer for people.
