Hunger Games director Gary Ross announces that he won't be returning for the film's sequel, Catching Fire. OnCam: Hi there, I'm Lauren Bradshaw and we're taking a look at the reason behind his departure in today's PopSugar Rush. The Hunger Games has been a huge success, topping the box office for three straight weeks — so then why is Gary Ross jumping ship? The movie's director will not be returning for the film's anticipated sequel, Catching Fire, and even though rumors over the weekend suggested that there were salary disputes, it sounds like it's simply a matter of timing. Gary revealed in statement last night: "As a writer and a director, I simply don't have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule." The news may come as a surprise to fans who were hoping to see Gary take on the next chapter in the beloved saga. When we spoke to the director at the premiere last month, he seemed to be 100 percent on board as he shared his plans with us for Catching Fire's adaptation. GARY ROSS: "We're already starting. I had a couple of meetings last week. It's early, but that process is beginning. It seems like it's one long continuous process." But it isn't just Hunger Games fans who may be feeling saddened; the film's stars are starting to speak out about Gary's departure as well. VO: Last night E! caught up with Alexander Ludwig who played Cato in the first film, and the actor shared his thoughts, saying: "Nobody could really do what Gary did. I honestly believe that 100 percent." Since production on Catching Fire starts in August, the search is now on for Gary's replacement. Tell us who you'd like to see direct, before the sequel comes to theaters next year.
