George Clooney Picks Up Humanitarian Prize Following His Big Oscar Win

Feb 27 2013 - 6:04am

George Clooney [1] was honored at the German Media Awards in Baden-Baden, Germany, yesterday. He jetted off to receive the German Media Prize just a few days after he took home the best picture Oscar [2] for Argo alongside producer and director Ben Affleck [3], while girlfriend Stacy Keibler stayed home in LA. German politician Ursula von der Leyen presented the award to George, which recognized his political commitment to humanitarian and peace causes. George has long been involved in political activism and humanitarian work, particularly in Sudan. At the award ceremony [4] George said, "You embarrass me, I feel like I'm dead and at my own memorial. It's so kind. I really don't know how to accept that kind of compliment." Previous recipients of the award have included Hillary Clinton and Nelson Mandela.

George will be getting used to German life, as he is filming The Monuments Men, a movie about historians recovering artwork stolen by Nazis, in Berlin. He spoke about the new film while in the Oscar press room [5] after his big win, telling a reporter that he and producing partner Grant Heslov — who also won an Oscar for Argo — would be in the German capital over the next few months to work on the upcoming flick.
