HBO Girls Premiere in New York Video

Is HBO's new series, Girls, the next Sex and the City? Hey there, I'm Karli Bulnes. We were at the show's big New York premiere to find out why we should watch — it's all in today's PopSugar Rush. "Maybe shock value." "There's a lot of raunchy sex." HBO's racy new comedy, Girls, follows the lives of four young women living in New York City. "I have been dating someone who treats my heart like it's monkey meat." Sound familiar? Well, at the show's Big Apple premiere on Wednesday, executive producer Judd Apatow told us he's well aware of the similarities to its successor, Sex and the City, but says the stories won't be the same. "We're such giant fans of the show and this show wouldn't exist without that but it is about a different period in women's lives, that time right after college when you don't know what to do and nothing's really working out, so we thought there was a way to do something different, but clearly it is reminiscent about some of the stuff that people love about SATC." "I think the show is just a little more grimy and gritty and raw than SATC at least in certain parts." PopSugar Editor Allie Merriam hit the red carpet, where we spotted Judd's wife Leslie Mann and Claire Danes, and she found out some fun facts about Girls' four leading ladies. "Girls has yet to debut on HBO but it already comes with an impressive pedigree. Three of the four stars are daughters of famous people. Alison Williams is the daughter . . . in the band bad company" Lena is also the show's creator, and she told us how she makes sure that her art imitates real life. "I think to keep things authentic you need to keep your eyes and ears on what your friends and people who are your demographic are doing, and I just made sure when I walked on set it looked like the apartment of people I knew and when I wrote a line it was something someone I knew would say."
