Don't think he will impact much or cause a crazy surge in ticket sales for the soccer league cos really it's the chicks who are drooling over him and i don't know many women who are willing to suffer through a 90 minute+ game which will probably suck just to catch glimpses of Becks. He's got a lot to live up to and a lot of catching up to do if he wants to be the D-Wade and Lebron James and Tom Brady of soccer.

AS long as he's not playing for Madrid anymore I'm very happy, no more galacticos the old Real Madrid is back.

Actually, I doubt too many Spaniards would cry over his (and especially his wife's) departure. From what I've heard, even players were not fond of the Beckhams' press attention. Besides, Real Madrid didn't want him anymore since he would basically be riding the bench if he continued there.

As much as I think he's a wonderful sportsman, I doubt he'll have much (if any) success here.

Back in the 70s, Pelé made soccer big in America, if only for a short time... and I think Beckham will have similar success for the few years he has left before he retires completely. If ticket sales are any indication, I'd say there are still quite a few futbol/soccer fans here in the US that will pay to see Beckham play with our guys... and many women, including myself that will sit and watch a futbol match hoping to see him bend in a free kick. Look at how many women go to American Football games or baseball games, which can be slow paced and boring... at least with soccer is fast-paced and exciting, kind of like hockey.

It's awful, the first time I heard him speak was at the conference with Real Madrid announcing he was coming over, oOMg when he said hala madrid I almost peed on myself. He sounds like a carson cressley(is that how you spell it) on acid. Anyways Jenn I love OLTL, I love it but I am upset about Evangeline WTF were they thinking.

I remember watching a documentary about soccer and them saying that even Pele had failed to ignite the same passion in the US the rest of the world has. LA Galaxy vs European football hmmmm, it's not even a contest. I can barely sit through 5 minutes of it on ESPN, but I watch every European league I can. It's just so boring in the states.

Americans don't like soccer? Well I have to disagree. I know many people whose kids play soccer rather than peewee football. I also happen to enjoy it:) So, it's not that we don't enjoy soccer, it simply doesn't get as much press attention as football and baseball. Hopefully David's arrival will help raise interest. And if his fan base is largely composed of women, so what? Women can't be legitimate sports fans? Last time I checked my calendar we were living in the year 2007.

beckham is the most overrated footballplayer in the history. Ok he can play but so can others. Sick of him ever since he went to madrid. But apparently he's good at selling shirts not only for his club but also for 2 idiots at D&G who made a whole stupid beckham collection with dumb shirts with a 7 on it. It's just too much for someone who isn't that good. And than everyone wanted his hair, and than he cheated. It's like he's everywhere. Too much, too much. Kids football popularity doesn't translate into a successful soccer league that's taken seriously internationally. Why does America insist on taking all of the 'Euro Trash' and making them into celebs here??? Its so annoying, why is this country so obsessed??? No one gives 2 sh*ts about him in Europe anymore, he is a washed up soccer star and she was in the Spice Girls like 10 years ago. I wish we would stop making these greedy people into God's, this has to be the most overexposed couple and for what? Because they are moving to L.A.? BFD. Seriously. I have been playing soccer for over 20 years, it was never immensely popular here and it never will be even with Beckham here in the states. Its a European sport that requires a tremendous amount of running and conditioning and we all know that American's arent down with either of those 2 things. I cant believe this society is force feeding these people down our throats and I hightlu doubt that he will change the world of soccer in this country. There have been WAY HOTTER and more talented soccer stars here in the States the sad thing is that they never got any recognition like this before. America is such a sad, sad place sometimes.
