Will The Hunger Games live up to its Twilight-sized hype? Hi there, I'm Lauren Bradshaw, and we're taking a look at the big box office projections and comparisons between the two series in PopSugar Rush. The Hunger Games heads to theaters this Friday, and it's already racking up sales! The film has presold out at nearly 2,000 screens according to Fandango, which has experts once again comparing it to another popular young adult series — yes, Twilight. For more, here's PopSugar Editor Lauren Turner. — Early reviews of Hunger Games are starting to come in, and they're good! — Studio insiders are saying it could make as much as $140 million in its opening weekend, which would put it above even Breaking Dawn Part 1 and making it biggest march opening EVER. — Seem to be betting on it bringing in more of a male audience as well, whereas Twilight series had primarily female viewers But let's be clear — The Hunger Games and Twilight are exciting in their own ways. The Hunger Games has been compared to the Twilight series ever since anticipation over the new franchise first started, but the cast has continued to make their case as they make the press rounds that the two aren't the same. LIAM HEMSWORTH: The only way it's similar to Twilight, is that it does have this audience, this huge fan base. It's a very different story. JOSH HUTCHERSON: It's an entirely different world and the challenges the characters face are very different. GARY ROSS: I think Suzanne Collins and Stephanie Meyer — who are friends — would be the first to say that this isn't very similar. Even Kristen Stewart was asked about The Hunger Games just yesterday on The Today Show . . . KRISTEN STEWART: I would love for them to be happy and doing what they're doing. I can't wait to see the movie . . ." Our take? Both popular series with juicy love triangles, but very different. As to whether it lives up to expectations, you can judge for yourself when The Hunger Games comes to theaters on Friday.
