Ice Cube Interview About 21 Jump Street (Video)

Ice Cube Would Give Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill an "F" Ranking as Employees

Ice Cube plays Channing Tatum and Ice Cube's boss in Friday's 21 Jump Street, and we caught up with the rapper-slash-actor at their recent junket in NYC. Ice Cube talked about the good times he spent on the set with Channing and Jonah, though he jokes that both actors would receive Fs for their work as cops. Ice recounted telling Channing and Jonah "war stories" from his old days with NWA, and spoke about where he'd go undercover if he had the chance. Check out our interview to find out what Ice Cube's pick would be.

Jonah is the one, he'll get you because he's always thinking of you know something new to say. Maybe undercover at the Staples Center on Lakers season. In this movie, you play Channing and Jonah's boss. So, I'm wondering how you would rate them as employees. F minus. No, I'm good. You know, at their jobs, their real jobs as actors, I've definitely gotta give them an A. Yeah, and so many of the scenes you guys share are hilarious. Was it hard keeping a straight face when your sharing a scene with those two guys? A little bit. You know, Jonah's the one. He'll get you. Because he's always thinking of you know, something new to say. So there was room for I guess some improvisation when you're doing the different scenes. Yeah, you know how the director's feel and Chris, they kinda let us basically hone in the parts how we wanted to. You send them undercover or into a high school. I'm curious if you could go undercover anywhere, where would you wanna go? Maybe undercover at the Staple Center, during Lakers season, you know, every night. Undercover at the Raiders stadium, that'd be nice. Anywhere I could catch a game. Yeah. Yeah. I go undercover. Are there any other shows from back in the day that you would love to see back on the big screen? I would love to see if they could get Sanford & Son on the big screen. The Jeffersons would be funny, you never know. And so obviously you have a background in music. Did you have that in common with Channing or Jonah? Did you talk about music while you were working on the movie? I just told them a lot of old NWA stories. They were interested in how things happened back in the day. And, so I was cool with basically bringing out the old war stories. And so what's next for you for the rest of this year? What are you up to? Doing more Coors Light commercials. Working on a Friday movie, and working on a NWA movie. Well it seems like there could be a sequel in this movie, would you be up for that? Yeah I'll be down. Yeah. All they gotta do is call. And with Channing and Jonah playing cops you know, if one of them who to arrest you, who would you rather be the arresting officer? I would rather, I guess, Channing. That's funny, that's what Rob said too, I guess Channing makes people a little bit have an easier ride. I mean, I feel like if I got arrested by him, you know, I won't feel as bad as if I got arrested by Jonah. Oh, really. I mean like "Dude, I ain't coming, man. You know damn well, if you wasn't in that uniform you would not be touching me."
