JT Skipped Grammys ... and Took the Ratings With Him?

Justin Timberlake hit the links with his mom in Thousand Oaks, California, yesterday. He was just a stone's throw away from LA, but you wouldn't have known that from his conspicuous skipping out on all things Grammy Awards over the weekend. After his performances and "My Grammy Moment" stuff at last year's show, JT boldly claimed that the Grammys used him for higher ratings, and I guess his grudge holds. Uh oh, though, this year's show was the third least watched of all time — I wonder how long before Justin blames that on his absence?

You know, I've been thinking about the Grammy show and can totally believe that the ratings were awful this year. I mean, for the 50th anniversary, I would have put together a totally different show. Instead of booking all the modern talent, I would have booked major, major people/bands. Put U2 up there, Pearl Jam, Madonna, The Eagles, Bon Jovi...see where I'm going with this? They could have gotten groups of musicians together from different eras playing a mix/medley of tunes. If it this year's show was to be a celebration through time, they totally missed the mark. A lost opportunity on a really, really big anniversary! I'm sorry about Kanye's mom, but is the 50th Grammy Awards the place to let him pay tribute?

I think Justin was mad with My Grammy Moment because he thought he was going to be part of a way of discovering a new artist, but it ended up being a lame American Idol rip-off. It was a different type of ratings grab, rather than just having a particular artist perform for ratings, that didn't fit with what the Grammys usually are about. I watch the Grammys every year. I definitely missed JT on the red carpet, in the crowd, or performing. He may love himself, but at least he brings some attitude to everything. Besides Vince Gill, everyone was pretty boring. The Grammys used to be so rock and roll - a mix of class and funk. This year, it was like watching the poor man's Oscars.

Perhaps if I had know that JT would have been there I would have known they were on this year. I didn't watch, but to be fair I didn't know they were on.
