@JustgossipNo, theaters hold 45 % of box office. There is an article about that in deadline. It's about Harry Potter's profit and you can see in this article that theaters hold near 45 % of box office. I always read about this percentage in different site (awardsdaily, thr...) ! so i don't think justin earned 50 millions for that movie because it made approximatively 100 millions $ (at this moment, he isn't A-list so he couldn't negociate this percentage) !

Do you have the link where Ben says who bought it? According to artinfo, the art blog that was actually there, not the tabloids, Theroux bought it. Either way, the boy is not poor, or living off her money as many haters have suggested.

@JustGossip You might be right about Theroux's earnings - I have no idea. But it was Jen that bought the painting, Justin just did the bidding on her behalf. Several sights have confirmed this, but also it came direct from Ben Stiller who's charity event it was and who they dined with afterwards. They also attended a dinner party for the charity last night. Hopefully Popsugar will have pics soon!

With DVD and cable sales the film has grossed close to $250 million. Once you subtract everything the film turns an actual profit of $150 million. When you are the creator, screenwriter and Executive Producer you can take around 25-30% of that, depending on your deal. Also, theaters earn most of their money on food and drinks, not Box Office.

@Justgossip. I am sorry but i don't speak very well english but are you sure ? If i well understand you, you told that he earned 50$ millions with that movie ? How is possible ? Because this movie cost 92 millions and does 188 millions at box office ! And theaters hold 45 % of BO so how is possible ? DVD sale in North America are 50 millions. After my calculations, studios have won 100 million (if we consider that DVD sales abroad were also 50 million) ! Justin took half this gain ? I don't think it's possible but maybe you are right !

Turns out Justin bought the $450,000 painting at the auction, not Jen. It's called Stranger #44.Apparently Theroux is loaded. He came up with the idea for Tropic Thunder, co-wrote the screenplay with Ben Stiller and was one of the Executive Producers. A friend who works in the biz thinks he probably made $50 million off that film alone by taking points, which means a percentage of the film's overall money at the box office, plus cable and DVD sales.Sexy and rich. Nice going Jen.
