Johnny Depp Covers Vanity Fair and Confesses to Doing Films For Money Just "For the Kids"

Johnny Depp struck a hot pose for the cover of November 2011's Vanity Fair, which will be on newsstands Oct. 8. He's chatting up his upcoming movie The Rum Diary ahead of its release this month on Oct. 28. Johnny, though, had more to say about his career and why he chooses to do certain projects. Additionally, some controversy was stirred up when Johnny compared photo shoots to rape. Johnny told the magazine:

On working as much as he can right now: "Basically, if they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it. I have to. I mean, it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids. It’s ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It’s for the kids."
On making money during his early days in Hollywood by attending Scientology study groups for $3: "I went to a bunch, man. It was so great, it was so fantastic."
On the lack of support for 2004's The Libertine from Harvey Weinstein: "Harvey killed a great film."
On photo shoots: "You just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped. The whole thing. It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man. . . . Whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like — you just feel dumb. It’s just so stupid."

Really poor choice of words. 'Violated' would have been better. All these actors, celebs, bitching about this kind of thing. It's part of the job and is a bit of a trade off for earning millions of dollars for a few months work. Suck it up. Some people have real problems.

If someone were to offer you that kind of money would you not take it? So don't hate on him because people are paying him that kind of money. We all would put ourselves and our family in a better position if we could. I know I would give my kids a better life if I could. And if any of you were to check your facts, Johnny does ALOT for charity. He does it in his own private way because he is not a show and tell kind of guy like some celebs in hollywood.

I guess when you sign a petition to Free Roman Polanski you don't really have much respect for women in general. Also, people on this site and others make a big deal about certain celebs not doing enough for charity. Johnny has earned more than $300 million just from the Pirates films. Other than dropping a few small checks here and there I don't recall him using his money for anything other than buying himself private islands.
