Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention, and that's how I discovered the magic of Johnson's Baby Powder.
I was visiting my folks one weekend when I woke up to find that I had forgotten all of my makeup back at home. We were to go to brunch, what's a gal to do? I rifled through my mother's Lancome and Elizabeth Arden, but my mother's complection is very different from mine, so aside from some dark brown eyeliner, I was screwed. That's when I saw it: Johnson's baby powder sitting in the corner of the vanity, hidden behind lotions and perfumes. My genetically dark under-eye circles needed something, anything, so I tried it out.
I squirt/poured a bit into the palm of my hand and dabbed a light dusting under my eyes with a puff. The results were amazing! It was so sheer and light, yet immediately lightened the dark circles, but not in a colored-in way as concealors do. It just plain lightened the area, and a hint of reflectiveness caused a luminous effect.
I realized that I had discovered cheapskate makeup gold! I tried another layer of dusting under the eyes (which almost completely dispelled them) and proceeded to highlight my forehead, tops of my cheek, and sides of the upper lip. The result was a nice, natural, luminous highlight!
I luckily have a pretty even skintone and just a small smattering of tiny-acne, so I don't need to even out with foundation except for rare occasions. Johnson's baby powder, however, helps to even out the very mild blotchiness that everyone has, as well as camoflauging my acne bumples under a sheer veil of moonlight.
I'm not sure how it would work on very dark skin tones, but I'm half Asian (yellow undertone) and, while I don't have a Carribean tan, I'm far from being a pale-faced flower. I've also got freckles.
Johnson's baby powder can be so sheer that every one of my glorious freckles shine through, or can be layered enough to blot out my dark eye-bags. Along with being cheap as dirt, it also serves the function of light antipersperant, white eyeshadow, makeup setter, deoderant, and even perfume (my fiancee thinks it smells like spring-fresh linen).
I've been using only lotion and baby powder as face makeup for a few weeks now, and I absolutely love it! I think some of my acne trouble-spots are clearing up, too!
