Elle Fanning Goes Pink to Watch Jude Law Win at the BIFAs

Brits and non-Brits alike were out at the British Independent Film Awards in London last night.

Brits and non-Brits alike were out at the British Independent Film Awards in London last night. Anna Karenina star Jude Law took home the Variety Award while the drama Broken took home the top prize of best British independent film. Andrea Riseborough, who was spotted sharing a laugh with The Avengers star Tom Hiddleston, won the Best Actress award for her role in Shadow Dancer.

Felicity Jones, Tom Felton, and Elle Fanning were also on hand at the award show. Elle stole the show in a princess-like pink Oscar de la Renta gown, which was fitting for her latest role. She recently wrapped filming Disney's Maleficent, in which she plays Princess Aurora. The movie pits Elle against Angelina Jolie, who plays the villain Maleficent. Elle told us last month that she was completely starstruck by Angelina when she first met her, even silently freaking out when the A-list mom so much as touched her.

4 Reasons to See Anna Karenina, Even If You Don't Like Period Pieces

Keira Knightley plays the titular Anna Karenina in the adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel, from director Joe Wright (her third collaboration with the filmmaker).

Keira Knightley plays the titular Anna Karenina in the adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel, from director Joe Wright (her third collaboration with the filmmaker). The drama depicts the fall of Russian socialite Anna, who goes from respected wife of Karenin (Jude Law) to disgraced mistress of the younger, dashing Count Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) over the course of the film. Knightley is right at home in the trappings of a period piece, but the 19th-century high-society setting might be a turnoff for some moviegoers who don't love costume dramas. However, Anna Karenina has more to offer than meets the eye — just check out my reasons.

  1. It's beautiful. The film is a visual feast, boasting saturated colors that are best exhibited by the gorgeous costumes. Knightley and her costar Alicia Vikander swan around in elaborate dresses and furs, and they participate in highly choreographed dancing that's both true to the time and mesmerizing to watch. Wright also uses a cool, innovative technique to transition scenes and settings, using curtains and theater sets to make it feel like you're watching a play.
  2. It's sexy. Anna Karenina revolves around an affair, and when things heat up between Anna and Count Vronsky, the chemistry is palpable. Knightley and Johnson have an electric attraction that jumps off the screen, and their interaction also looks great (remember how I said the dance sequences are highly choreographed? The same goes for the love scenes). Stolen kisses, furtive looks, puckered lips — the audience is seduced by the sensual elements as much as Anna is by Vronsky.

Side Effects Trailer: Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara Are in Trouble

Channing Tatum tackled romance, comedy, and, um, stripping in 2012, but the actor is popping up in yet another genre in 2013: the thriller.

Channing Tatum tackled romance, comedy, and, um, stripping in 2012, but the actor is popping up in yet another genre in 2013: the thriller. In Side Effects (formerly titled The Bitter Pill), Tatum reteams with his Magic Mike director, Steven Soderbergh, but the results are decidedly less fun this time around. Tatum plays husband to Rooney Mara's Emily, who lands in hot water after she starts taking a new medication and is linked to a murder. Naturally, her doctor (Jude Law) is also in the thick of the mess, especially when it becomes implied that their relationship isn't strictly professional.

The preview starts out showcasing Tatum and Mara's onscreen romance before quickly unraveling and heading into very bleak territory. Though the trailer doesn't give much away in terms of plot, that's exactly what I like about it — there's clearly something sinister happening here, but I feel plenty of twists coming on. Side Effects opens Feb. 8.

Jude Law Squeezes In Shirtless Time During a Break From Moviemaking

Jude Law was shirtless, clad only in yellow swim trunks, to swim with friends in Saint-Tropez yesterday.

Jude Law was shirtless, clad only in yellow swim trunks, to swim with friends in Saint-Tropez yesterday. He and a group of male pals spent their afternoon hanging out at Club 55, a celeb favorite. Jude treated himself to the day in the sun during a break from shooting Dom Hemingway, in which he plays a safecracker recently released from prison, with Richard E. Grant. Jude's got plenty more to keep him busy through the end of 2012. He'll get down to work promoting his end-of-year movie Anna Karenina, which is out in the US in limited release on Nov. 16. He also has the animated Rise of the Guardians arriving on screens Nov. 21.

Jude Law Says His Character in Anna Karenina Is Not "Just a Convenient Bad Guy"

In this Fall's Anna Karenina, Jude Law plays Alexei Karenin, the cuckolded husband of the title character (played by Keira Knightley).

In this Fall's Anna Karenina, Jude Law plays Alexei Karenin, the cuckolded husband of the title character (played by Keira Knightley). I talked to the actor about the period film and his character, and Law explained why he wanted to make Karenin sympathetic and more than just a bad guy. He also talked about Knightley, particularly how grown-up her performance is, as well as how the great script is the key to making the adaptation work so well.

Keira Knightley chose a stunning and sheer black Elie Saab gown for her big TIFF premiere of Anna Karenina on Friday evening.

Keira Knightley chose a stunning and sheer black Elie Saab gown for her big TIFF premiere of Anna Karenina on Friday evening. She didn't pose with a date, but she did have her leading men Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson along for the big red-carpet event and afterparty. Buzz reviewed Anna Karenina from the festival and was blown away by the adaptation of the famous Russian novel. Keira once again teamed up with her Atonement and Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright for Anna, and she is once again earning praise and award season buzz for her performance. In fact, the film got a standing ovation after the screening. Jude, Keira, Aaron, and the rest of their cast retreated to The Soho House to celebrate the occasion.

Anna Karenina Trailer: Keira Knightley Takes on a Dangerous Affair

You would think Keira Knightley would be sick of period pieces after movies like Pride and Prejudice and Atonement, but the actress has teamed up with director Joe Wright yet again for Anna Karenina.

You would think Keira Knightley would be sick of period pieces after movies like Pride and Prejudice and Atonement, but the actress has teamed up with director Joe Wright yet again for Anna Karenina. Taking place in the high-society circles of 19th-century Russia, Leo Tolstoy's novel tells the story of a young girl who has a scandalous affair with a count (Aaron Johnson), despite being married to government official Alexei Karenina (Jude Law).

Though it feels like we've seen Knightley in roles like this a million times before, why fix it if it ain't broken? She seems like a great fit for Anna and I didn't even recognize Johnson as a blond. As expected, the costumes look beautiful but the imagery depicting the elegance of the parties (I didn't know they had indoor skating rinks in the 1800s) is even more fantastic. The movie is set for release on Nov. 9, but check out the trailer after the jump.
