"They're definitely caricatures. But at the same time, it's just heightened reality. We didn't want to go so far as to make fun of the '80s era, because that was a time, and people were literally wearing this, wearing their hair that way, dressing that way, and being very free and open. . . . You bring up memories from the '80s and people's whole bodies light up. We didn't want to go over the top, but sometimes we do! It's really fun, it's entertaining — beyond entertaining, it's hilarious in some parts — it's emotional in some parts, and it's really funny in others."
