Kate Middleton Plays the Perfect Tea Hostess For D-Day Vets

Jun 6 2014 - 10:59am

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Gold Beach in Normandy, France, on Friday to join the rest of the British royal family in honoring the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. She wore the same blue Alexander McQueen coat that she sported to a WWI memorial event [1] in New Zealand back in April. She was in France to host a special teatime chat with various veterans. Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in France on Thursday to kick off memorial events and visit with veterans who fought in France. Earlier in the day, the queen met with President Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and several other world leaders for a special commemorative event to honor the fallen. The queen's event was perhaps overshadowed by Obama and Putin, who were meeting face to face for the first time since the Ukrainian crisis erupted. Prince Charles, who got in a lot of hot water for comparing Putin to Hitler during an official visit to Canada in May, was not at the queen's event but did cross paths with Putin at the Gold Beach event.

Aside from the important visit to France, Kate Middleton is preparing for her first solo event since returning home from Australia in April [2]. The duchess will attend a breakfast reception at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England, on Tuesday to help raise support for the British Team in the America's Cup. Last week, Will and Kate made a visit to Scotland [3] where they sampled whisky at a distillery, putting an end to the various pregnancy rumors that seem to surround Kate wherever she goes.
