Kate and William Get Shocking News on Their Royal Tour

Apr 24 2014 - 6:05am

Thursday's stop on the royal tour [1] brought Kate Middleton and Prince William to the National Arboretum, a gorgeous building tucked away high on the hills over the city of Canberra, Australia. The two opted for a little manual labor, helping to plant and water a tree; the Arboretum is currently making plans for the planting of 100 forests. The couple also took time to meet with local families. The Duke and the Duchess spent the earlier part of their day at the National Portrait Gallery for a little art appreciation. The couple had the opportunity to view an exhibition of portraits and were also afforded the privilege of meeting a few of the paintings' subjects, all of whom are well-known and successful Australians.

At the end of the busy day, Will and Kate attended a reception [2] hosted by the governor general at the Government House. Kate wore a white Lela Rose dress and had wore her hair up. Sadly, the reception was marked by some unfortunate news for William's family as it was revealed that the brother of Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, had died during a freak accident in NYC [3] on Wednesday. The couple released a statement about the death, saying, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were saddened to learn this morning of the tragic death of Mark Shand. Their thoughts are with the Duchess of Cornwall and her family at this time." The two will wrap up their tour on Friday and head back to England.

There have been plenty of amazing moments so far [4] on the royal tour, but we can't get enough. Yesterday's excursion was filled with scandal and skill alike, when Kate wore a low-cut top [5] — the horror! — and tried her hand at DJing [6]. There's only one more day left, so brace yourself for what's to come!
