Kate and Will Don't Let a Little Rain Ruin Their Royal-Tour Fun

Apr 9 2014 - 7:24pm

Prince William and Kate Middleton, in a blue Alexander McQueen [1] coat, made their latest royal tour stop [2] on Thursday at a the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center, where they toured Sir Peter Jackson's Knights of the Sky WWI aircraft exhibition. They took in a classic aircraft show before returning to Wellington, New Zealand, where they are set to meet with the prime minister and attend a state reception. Prince William will deliver a speech and unveil a portrait of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Earlier in the day, they participated in a commemorative wreath-laying ceremony in Blenheim, New Zealand. The Duke and Duchess — sans baby George — arrived at the memorial in Seymour Square and were joined by a group of WWII veterans, New Zealand politicians, and thousands of spectators. The service is held to pay tribute to those who have died in combat, including during the first World War, which marks its 100th anniversary later this year. Even though it was a somber event, Kate and Will still made sure to greet Blenheim residents and elected officials with big smiles; they also accepted some gifts from kids, including flowers, cards, and a sweet friendship bracelet, and Kate even watched a little girl twirl in her princess-inspired dress.

It's already been a big week for the royals, including Prince George. The family of three made its grand entrance in New Zealand [3] on Monday, and Will and Kate attended a traditional welcoming ceremony while little George hung out with his nanny, Maria Borrallo, later that day. On Wednesday, the 8-month-old got to meet some of his pint-sized peers [4] at the Royal New Zealand Plunket Society, an organization that provides health care to children and new families. George seemed to have a ball as he played with the other tots — four baby boys and six little girls — and adorably pulled on his mom's hair [5] as she chatted with fellow parents and guardians at the event.
