Yesterday we told you that Nicole Kidman had dropped out of the upcoming movie The Reader due to her exciting pregnancy. The studio wasted no time filling the position, and Kate Winslet has stepped in to take her place. Apparently Kate was even the studio's first choice for the role, but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with Revolutionary Road. The dates were rearranged so now Nicole gets a baby, Kate gets the part, and the studio gets their star — sounds like everybody wins.

i like Kate better than Nicole and with Nicole's recent luck with movies this may be a good thing!
1Those are like the worst pictures of each of them.
I love Kate, I just hate this picture. I'm glad things worked out for them.
2Good cos I love Kate. And Nicole should really consider retiring. She's lookin a little old.
3Kate is doing Nicole a favor, actually. Get some rest, Nicole.
4That picture of Nicole truly scares me.
5thats good..both good actors so..its all good
6Nicole would look a LOT better if she stopped trying to look younger. She keeps claiming she's "natural," but if she actually went natural things would look a lot better. I think her natural red hair was so much more flattering.
7I think they are both amazing actreses! I would love to see them in a film together. Too bad so many movies have male ensembles...but not a lot of female ones.
8kate's hair looks gorgeous
9it's good news all around for everyone involved.
anyone else think that they look alike there?
10This happens to be a terrible photograph of Kate but I think she's a fabulous person and actress.
11Kate Winslet is one of my favorite actresses, so I'm thrilled to her that she's got the role.
12Ha that's kind of funny.
13Kate is a great choice, imo.
14I'm really looking forward to this film. I reread the novel last week and liked it much better the second time around. Probably, I was just a little to young to really appreciate it, when I read it the first time.
I'm also really happy David Kross is playing 15-year-old Michael, that boy is incredibly talented.
go kate! i feel like she is one of those few actresses that have a talent, but don't go on and brag about it.
15I think Kate is real and a great actress! YAY!!! Me likey her!! So pretty!
16Yay! Kate is SO much better. Plus, the character is supposed to be curvy and vuluptuous- Nicole's too much of a twig for that role.
17Not a flattering picture of Nicole. Again, someone who could stand to gain 10 pounds. She looks like a dying willow.
18
Good for Nicole, Good for Kate and GOOD FOR US!!
19Katie deserves a chance.
20kates my fave! yay
21Kate is a better actress so that's good.
22Woo...love Kate Winslet! And I can't stand Nicole Kidman. She is creepy-looking and I don't understand how so many guys are obsessed with her. (That was a little harsh, sorry!) Haha
23ooo another Kate Winslet movie! Sounds good to me!
24I love Kate Winslet so Im glad that she gets it.. Its weird how often Nicole drops out of movies...
25This sounds like good timing for both Nicole and Kate. Nicole is still pretty much a newly-wed, and with Keith's recent rehab stint and their pregnancy, I think she probably needs a rest.
26WooHoo!!! I love Kate ... now I can't wait for this movie!
27I am so disappointed.
28The character is not exactly a saint, so Nicole would have been great in the role.
Comparing Kate to Nicole, really guys. Nicole is at least 8 years older than Kate.
Kate Winslet is one of my favorite actresses and I think she is a really great person in a lot of ways. Plus, I wish I could look just like her. I love that she doesn't think she has to be skin and bones.
29They wanted Kate for the role to start with.Kidman was the third choice.Once they found out Kate was available after all they dumped Kidman. That's why Kidman announced she was pregnant to deflect from the fact that they fired her. Congrats to the cast of The Reader they dodeged a box office bomb by dumpimg the no talent Kidman.
30originally,its really kate's shoes....hahahahaha
she just took it back.!!
