Mick Jagger Speaks Out About the Death of Girlfriend L'Wren Scott

Mar 18 2014 - 10:20am

Fashion designer L'Wren Scott was found dead [1] from an apparent suicide on Monday. The New York Daily News first reported [2] that the 49-year-old was found by an assistant in her NYC apartment and was hanging from a scarf tied to a doorknob. Police revealed that there was no sign of foul play or forced entry, and they did not find a suicide note in the home. New details emerged on Tuesday surrounding her death, including reports that the assistant received a text from the designer [3] asking her to "come by" before discovering L'Wren's body. It's also been alleged that L'Wren, who canceled her Fall 2014 runway show in London last month, was nearly $7 million in debt [4] at the time of her death.

L'Wren launched her eponymous fashion line in 2006 and had since risen to fame as a much sought-after celebrity designer, dressing everyone from Nicole Kidman [5] and Penélope Cruz [6] to Sarah Jessica Parker [7] and first lady Michelle Obama. Fashion industry heavyweights like Anna Wintour and Rachel have already taken to social media to react to her death [8], and a spokesperson for L'Wren's boyfriend of over a decade, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, told The Hollywood Reporter [9] Monday that the rocker is "completely shocked and devastated by the news." Mick and the band postponed their tour in Australia and New Zealand [10] this week following the news, and the rocker shared a moving message on his personal website Tuesday [11], saying:

I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

I will never forget her,
