Spider-Man 3 Slings to a Record-Breaking Weekend

We knew Spider-Man 3 was going to have a big first weekend — but how big?

We knew Spider-Man 3 was going to have a big first weekend — but how big? Well, the movie brought in an estimated $148 million, making it the biggest opening weekend ever in North America, according to Variety. The numbers quickly ignited sequel talk, with a Sony executive gushing that there would be "a fourth and a fifth and a sixth and a seventh" Spidey flick.

Just how good was the web-slinger? Well, besides bumping Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest from the top of the all-time opening weekend leaderboard, it also had a bigger opening than either of the first two movies in the Spider-Man franchise. It also now holds the record for the biggest opening-weekend worldwide, netting a whopping $375 million. And, just for good measure, it also recorded the biggest Imax opening ever, topping 300.

With numbers like that, it seems almost irrelevant to talk about other movies. But just in case you were wondering, Disturbia continued to hold its own, finishing second by bringing in $5.7 million. Fracture came in third, followed by The Invisible and Next. Lucky You wasn't so lucky after all, straggling into sixth place with just $2.5 million.

Movie Preview: Lucky You

In a weekend belonging almost entirely to Spider-Man 3, Lucky You is quietly opening nationwide.

In a weekend belonging almost entirely to Spider-Man 3, Lucky You is quietly opening nationwide. The tag line for this movie is "Change your game. Change your life." So we kind of already know what's going on here. Eric Bana plays Huck Cheever, a poker player with a special gift for reading people, but an inability to bring his people skills off the table. That is, until he meets a passionate, lively singer named Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore) who, I suppose, changes his game, changes his life. Sappy metaphors about "taking chances" in love surely abound. Check out the trailer and tell me what you think if you read more

Drew Gets Lucky with Eric Bana

Drew was all glammed up at the premiere of her new movie, Lucky You, at the Tribeca Film Festival last night.

Drew was all glammed up at the premiere of her new movie, Lucky You, at the Tribeca Film Festival last night. In the film she stars as a songstress who falls in love with a poker player played by Eric Bana. Drew did all the singing in both Music and Lyrics and Lucky You and is on both soundtracks as well, so that part of the role wasn't much of a stretch. According to Eric, Drew was even a little too good at times. At one point he had to tell her, "You have to pull it back a little because you're not meant to be the world's best singer but she's really, really good." It sounds like Drew could have a career in music, but we hope that doesn't mean she's leaving acting anytime soon!

Drew is Taking Up Poker

We haven't seen Drew for a while, but we are always psyched when she comes out of hiding.

We haven't seen Drew for a while, but we are always psyched when she comes out of hiding. She was in Vegas on Thursday at the World Series of Poker to promote her fall movie, Lucky You. The movie is set at the 2003 World Series of Poker, and she said she missed out on lessons from the pros, but would love to now pick up tips from the experts. Here's more from Drew:

"Now that I don't have to stay true to the movie for my character, I'm planning to pick up as many tips as I can from the experts so I can go home and kick my friends' butts," the 31-year-old actress said.

Barrymore said she holds regular $20 or $100 buy-in home games with friends and members of her boyfriend Fabrizio Moretti's band, The Strokes.

But she doesn't plan to follow actress Jennifer Tilly into playing poker for a living.

"I really couldn't do that. I made a $200 bet the other night (on blackjack) and I was like thinking it was the craziest thing on the planet," she said.

Lucky You will be in theaters September 8th. We can't wait to see this cute girl again. Lots more pictures from the press conference so read more
