This year's Oscar nominees are hitting the annual Nominees Luncheon today to be celebrated ahead of the big March 2 show and to answer a few questions from the press. Breakout 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong'o stopped by the interview room and demurely answered a couple of questions — but the best answer came when she spoke in Spanish. When she was asked by a Spanish-speaking reporter about her Mexican roots (Nyong'o was born in Mexico City ), Nyong'o at first answered in Spanish and then replied in English: "I have a warm place in my heart for Mexico, as I do for my other country as well, Kenya. I have been celebrated in both places and also America, as well, and that's a humbling experience. . . . That is the beauty of film, that it brings people closer together."
Nyong'o also talked about her expectations for her award-season experience, and she humbly answered, "I didn't expect anything. There's no way that I could have dreamt any of this stuff up. It has just been an incredible journey, and it just continues to be that. It's an adventure and an exciting one . . . and a very revealing one."
