Madonna and Tory Burch Could Both Have Perfumes Soon

There's lots of news in the olfactory arena these days.

There's lots of news in the olfactory arena these days. It seems that Madonna (not for the first time, either) is rumored to be in talks with celebrity eau giant Coty to make her own fragrance. Meanwhile, Estée Lauder has already signed a deal with designer label Marni to create a scent, and the brand is also supposedly in talks with Tory Burch about a perfume. (Although there's also word that Burch may be set to make a deal with Coty.)

While companies have wanted to make a Madonna perfume for decades now, her demands have surpassed what any could match. She was rumored to be signing deals in 1997 and 2007, but neither ever came to fruition. This time could be different, though, since she and daughter Lourdes Leon have their Material Girl line, which already includes makeup and even body spray. If a scent does make it to market, let's all hope it's as high-quality as Madge herself.

Salma, James, and Madonna Toast Gucci and Female Filmmakers in Venice

Madonna, Salma Hayek, and James Franco were among the guests at tonight's very first Gucci Award For Women in Cinema Soiree at the Venice Film Festival.

Madonna, Salma Hayek, and James Franco were among the guests at tonight's very first Gucci Award For Women in Cinema Soiree at the Venice Film Festival. The fashion house announced its intention to create the award last October, with the goal of recognizing the big-screen project or talent that best exemplifies the role of women in the movies. Salma arrived on the arm of her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, who is the head of Gucci Group. Madonna brought her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, as her date. James Franco also took a brief break from work to attend the celebration of cinema. The Gucci Pour Homme fragrance spokesmodel has been spending the last days of Summer in Detroit as he shoots Oz: The Great and Powerful, but he was part of the jury that selected this year's winner, who Madonna presented with her award. The nominees included female producers, screenwriters, and directors, but Jessica Chastain ended up taking home the top honor for her Tree of Life performance.

Madonna was decked out in a black lace dress Dolce & Gabanna this morning as she left Venice's Hotel Excelsior and hopped into a water taxi. She made her way over to where the action is going down at the city's film festival, ready to tackle another day of press for her directional feature W.E. Madonna wore Vionnet to yesterday's premiere along with her leading ladies Abbie Cornish and Andrea Riseborough. However, W.E.'s reviews are pretty poor from critics. According to some reviews, moviegoers in Venice were laughing at inappropriate times and the film is said to be pretty, but without much substance. Producer Harvey Weinstein now needs to assess how much money he'll put into promoting the project ahead of its December release. She unfortunately has some other unpleasant business to contend with. Madonna's being sued over the use of "Material Girl" in her Macy's line, and she'll be required to appear in an LA courtroom next month.

Madonna stepped out in a butterfly-bedecked Vionnet gown and matching sunglasses as she debuted her directorial project W.E. at the Venice Film Festival this evening. The multitalented Madge gave the stars of her film, Abbie Cornish and Andrea Riseborough, a warm welcome on the red carpet, and she also had fans in Valentino and Marisa Tomei, who both turned up at the event. Reviews of W.E. have been mixed, but the period piece is so far faring better with the critics than her first effort behind the camera, 2008's Filth and Wisdom. Earlier today, Madonna gave a press conference to talk about the movie and credited her exes Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie with encouraging her directorial dreams. Madonna has dated several men in Hollywood, but the creative talents of her current flame lie elsewhere; Madonna's new beau, 24-year-old Brahim Zaibat, is a professional breakdancer.
