Mariah Carey as an American Idol Judge (Video)

Mariah Carey officially joins American Idol as a judge. Hey, there. I'm Karli Bulnes. Our top 4 reasons why we think she's perfect for the part are coming up in today's PopSugar Rush. Mariah Carey has signed on to judge Season 12 of American Idol. The singer called in to a Fox Network Panel at the Television Critic's Association Summer Press Tour in Beverly Hills on Monday to confirm the news, and later tweeted that she's excited to help find and nurture new talent. PopSugar's Laura Given is here now to help us run through our top reasons why we think she's great for the gig. Hey Laura. Hi there. Let's start with number one. She's got mentoring experience already on American Idol. She does. Let's take a listen. Doing what I do is tough. So I'm just like I know that like American Idol is like the boot camp of all boot camps. Mariah Carey was the guest mentor on Season 7 of American Idol. You might remember David Cook did that rock rendition her hit, Always Be My Baby. That's right. And she's performed on Idol Gives Back, so she's no stranger to the show. Good point. And, you know, maybe she can get some live TV tips from her husband Nick Cannon, who hosts America's Got Talent. Yeah. Exactly. All right, moving on to number three, she has history with her fellow judge. Randy Jackson is expected to return to the show and he's worked with Mariah for years. You know, he's been musical director on some of her tours. He's played in her band and he's recorded with her. Clearly they have professional chemistry so hopefully that translates to TV too. I'm sure they'll have some fun at that judges table. Yeah. All right. Moving on, number two. She's sort of become the idol's idol so to speak. Yes. You know, we've already mentioned David Cook but a lot of the show contestants have bravely taken on her hits. Most recently Season 11 runner up Jessica Sanchez performed My All. And she knock it out of the park for her. She did. Okay. and in addition to contestants, fellow pop stars are even singing Mariah's praises now that they've heard she's taken on this new job. Yeah, both Jordan Park and JoJo have said they're excited and totally approve of Mariah joining as a judge. And finally our number one reason why we think Mariah is great for this job. She's so fun to watch. Totally. She's one of the biggest acts in music and she's got the personality to match her talent. She is great at showing off her sexy ensembles and making things festive and she puts on a great TV moment. Nobody can forget that whole stripped down in a bathroom drinking. No, no, that one goes down in history. Exactly. You know, I was a little worried when J Lo announced when she would not be coming back to the show. But this just gets me all excited to watch. Me too.
