Michael Vartan Is Still a Big Shot (For Now)

Michael Vartan arrived in Melbourne today for some serious poker tournament. Sounds like something one of the characters on Big Shots would do, but not his. Vartan plays the one real endearing guy on the show about rich CEO men BSing about acting like women. Unfortunately we're not so sure how long we'll get to watch Michael on the small screen. After being shelved for a few weeks, ABC is bringing back Big Shots to air three more episodes. Depending on how well these do will determine whether or not the struggling drama will be picked up — that is, assuming this sad writers' strike ever comes to an end. Maybe a second career as a poker champion isn't such a bad idea after all.

To each his own I guess. Although, I do agree that the main reason I watch 'Big Shots' is because of Vartan and Nia Long (acting or no, these two have some of the 'best' on-screen chemistry that I've seen in a couple, Andrew St. John and Precious Kofi are my second choice by far, in a long time and if what Nia told Craig Ferguson is true, it seems like they had a ball doing these shots.), but some of the other cast members are worth watching as well (at least in my opinion) because their camaraderie is so hilarious, and the drama sequences that follow afterwards make this show more than just a 'male version' of sex in the city to me. If Vartan, and the others, says that this is the second best show he's been in so far, because it makes him feel as if he's at home, and the friendships are getting that much closer, who am I to knock that? They do look like they have a lot of fun, and I wish them 'all' nothing but the best. I personally am hoping and 'praying' that ABC does allow the show to return in May (even if it means a new day and time, and better writing, as long as they 'dont' change James and Katie 'too' much.), because I think they're worth it. P.S. Perhaps for those who haven't had a chance to see any of the episodes yet, maybe you'd be willing to check out one or two for yourselves (fanpop.com, AOL.com, etc.) to see how it appeals to you? For those who've already done so and still don't like it, that's why we have freedom of choice here in the good old USofA. I apologize for this extremely long post. A Vartan fan who believes in pulling for the underdog(s). Thanks.

I agree, Michael Vartan is hot. These aren't his best photos, but he's damn sexy to me. I never got into Alias. I just couldn't get with Garner being a double agent, sorry. I have seen Vartan in One Hour Photo, Never Been Kissed, The Palbearer, and Monster in Law (which I watched on a lark, but found surprisingly funny). I think he's great. I like him and Nia in Big Shots also. Mr. Vartan definitely deserves more airtime.

Le Etiana - we will just need to disagree on the chemistry side. I guess I wasn't really ever a fan of Alias I just watched it because of Michael Vartan. I didn't even know of the show until I flicked the tv over to the channel that had it on and the first thing I saw was Michael and heard his voice, well that was it I needed to find out who he was and what the name of the show was - couldn't care less about any one else or the story line which I must say left a lot to be desired. To me, and maybe I am too logical, the story line had lots of holes in it and totally improbable many a time but who cared. That's why I don't understand the criticism of the writing in Big Shots yes some scenarios are far fetched but it is fantasy and just as Alias the writers have taken poetic licence - the writing has improved and I am hoping it will get better. Anyway if Big Shots doesn't work out I am happy that Michael was in another role which he has portrayed extremely well and like you the guy belongs on the big screen. Michael has shown his versatility in the various roles he has taken over the years, he is such a natural actor who says a lot without speaking which is rare in USA actors. I do not like Hollywood productions I don't watch them anymore (unless Michael is in them so I saw MIL which is the last blockbuster I have seen). I watch and prefer indie movies and UK and European movies they are natural with no hype or car chasers and the actors are so much better than those who do hard core Hollywood movies. Watch out for Rogue despite the budget it is in the genre of an indie movie. Cheers have a nice day I am out of here.

I've never watched an episode of Alias, but I did see One Hour Photo, Never Been Kissed, The Pallbearer, Myth of Fingerprints, Next Best Thing and Monster in Law. Okay, MIL was not a great role for him, but what chance did he have between Jennifer and Jane. I do like Jennifer Garner, and as much as I agree that the coverage of her has been excessive, I'd still rather see her going to the park with Violet than another Lohan post. 13 Going on 30 is great, and Catch and Release has really grown on me. Timothy Olyphant as a love interest worked for me. Why don't we ever see a thread on him, or more Vartan? Or Keanu? :monkey:

Micheal's character on Big Shots definitely has the most substance and I like him with Nia but I don't feel that the chemistry between them is that great and it doesn't compare at all to the incredible chemistry he had with Sydney on Alias. And Advah......the line forms behind me *lol* just kidding but we all better get in line because he's a catch.

Thought you might like to read this article - what a wonderful man Michael Vartan is (ok we know but this is so sweet) The Daily Telegraph (Australia) January 3, 2008 Michael Vartan a friend of beasts HE passed up an invitation to spend New Year's Eve at the Playboy Mansion in favour of staying home with his dog and then rescued a baby bird on his first day in Oz - so it's fair to say Michael Vartan is an animal aficionado. Soon after hitting our shores yesterday, the Alias and Rogue star was seen showing concern for a bird that had fallen out of its nest in Melbourne and ensured it would be cared for by professionals. Vartan is Down Under to take part in the Aussie Millions poker tournament, which kicks off at Melbourne's Crown Casino on Saturday. The Never Been Kissed heartthrob will be here until January 22 and also hopes to take in some matches at the Australian Open. © 2008 News Limited You know the writing in Big Shots is getting better and yes Michael's portrayal of the character James is the best, but he and Nia are dynamite together much better chemistry I think than in Alias where I never liked the snooty Sydney character or how she was portrayed - but I guess I like seeing good actors act and I so dislike over acting.

Sounds good db! :FROGGY: I meant to say ages ago that Michael has made it known many times how much he loves Australia and the people he has met there. He filmed a movie there called Rouge and fell in love with the country. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he moved there and then we'd see even less of him. Or maybe we'd see more of him because it seems that anytime he goes to Australia there's press about it! :JUMPIN:

db, Alias is completely worth your money especially if you see it at the used book store. I'm warning you, you'll get hooked and be sad there's only 5 seasons of it! :nerdgirl:
