Ry Cuming left his native Australia at age 18, armed with a guitar and a surfboard, to see the world and pursue his music. A chance meeting with a record-label executive in Costa Rica led him to LA, and once there, it didn't take long for his soulful songs and introspective lyrics to land him a record deal and a spot touring with Maroon 5. We met up with Ry at the beach in Santa Monica shortly after he returned from his latest concert dates with the band. It was a fitting location for our chat; Ry, an avid surfer, says the ocean is one of his biggest inspirations as an artist. We talked about his songwriting style and his experience on the road with the Maroon 5 guys, and Ry even played a live, acoustic version of his song "In the Fire" for our cameras. Check out our interview and his performance, and find Ry's debut, self-titled album in stores now.
