The star-studded romantic comedy New Year's Eve hits theaters today, with famous faces like Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, and Halle Berry — just to name a few. But is there a strong story behind all that star power? Watch our video review to find out!
Hi, I'm Annie Skutter, and in Watch, Pass, or Rent we're checking out New Year's Eve. An all star cast including Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashton Kutcher, Zac Efron, Leah Michelle, Robert DeNiro, and many more are all getting ready for a memorable new year's eve in New York City. Happy new year. Happy new year, Randy. I really wanted to like this movie. It seem like a festive holiday film I could see with friends and family but in the end, there were just too many stories, too many characters. I ended up not carrying about any of them. What kind karma is that, huh? So many of my favorite actors are in this movie, but it's not really satisfying because they're fighting so hard for screen time. Actors like Halle Berry and Robert DeNiro are barely in it, while the other characters kind of fall flat. Sorry, that's actually an old resolution: make more eye contact. However I did like Zac Efron's character, who made me laugh a few times, and had a lot of charisma. Jeez, are you serious? That is a hot ticket! I knew that there were going to be some cliches in this movie, but I wasn't expecting them to be so cheesy. We all know that Lea Michele can sing but I wasn't expecting an overproduced musical number from her in the elevator. And there were multiple speeches about new beginnings and hope and second chances for the New Year. It just was too much. You went out for a slice of pizza and you may have run into The One, you know what that is? "Insanity?" No not insanity, serendipity. This is a romantic comedy and there are tons of hot actors in this movie, but the romances are kind of random and uninspired, and the actors don't really have that much chemistry together. OK, we need to pack! We have packed. OK, calm. Taxi! Baby, I don't think we're going to be able to get one up here. There's too many characters, too many stories, you can't keep track of everything. So instead of sitting through this long cheesy movie, have your own new year's eve party. It's a pass.
