Nicole Kidman Says Keith Urban Brought Out Her "Sexuality"
Nicole Kidman looks radiant in a spread for Harper's Bazaar's November issue, which hits newsstands Oct. 23. Nicole's feature in the magazine's "Daring Issue" is a fitting one — she is currently promoting her controversial upcoming film, The Paperboy, in which she stars opposite of Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey. And although she is known to keep mum about her past relationships, Nicole opens up about ex-husband Tom Cruise. Inside the pages, she also talks about current husband Keith Urban, who has taken up a seat at the judging table on American Idol, awkward red carpet moments, and how she's no longer obsessed with self-image. Here's more from Nicole in Harper's Bazaar:
- On early days with Tom Cruise: "In those early years, it was like, 'I'm here and I'm clutching onto your arm, and it all feels a little overwhelming and really strange.' And I was shy. Deeply shy. I didn't feel comfortable at all. But I felt very comfortable at home."
- On her relationship with Keith Urban: "He just gave me confidence through just being very kind to me and understanding me, opening me up to trying things, my sexuality, those sorts of things. A bigger, stronger personality, that's what I've been drawn to. I need protection. Everyone wants to feel someone's got their back."
- On obsessing over self-image: "Less as you get older. All of that other stuff becomes less important. Like, I've always had a little belly. I mean, now that I'm 45, they don't say, 'Oh, she's pregnant!' as much. But I've got skinny arms and legs, and then I've got a little belly."
- Addressing awkward red carpet moments: "I find standing and posing for photos very awkward. Red-carpet truths! I make sure to wear comfortable dresses because I want to be able to go out afterward and, you know, bend."
