Interview: Parker Posey on Jezebel James, Runway, and More

Parker Posey doesn't speak in sentences; she speaks in stories.

Parker Posey doesn't speak in sentences; she speaks in stories. Ask her a question, and her incredibly detailed response will often start with the line "So I was doing this play in New York . . . " and then dart all over the place before ultimately reaching the answer.

I had the chance to chat with Posey last summer at the TCA press tour, when she was first promoting The Return of Jezebel James. The show, which co-stars Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under and was created and written by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, finally premieres Friday night on Fox. So, I figured it was time to share Posey's thoughts on her new co-star, her move to the small screen, and even her path to becoming a Project Runway guest judge a couple of seasons back. Here were highlights:

  • On becoming a fan of Ambrose through Six Feet Under: "I was a huge fan of her in the show. I was hooked. [Tells long story about breaking her finger doing a play in New York and renting the first season's DVDs while she was recuperating.] I had Monday off. I watched the entire first season, high on Vicodin, crying and eating lasagna from takeout somewhere, and I was like, 'This is the greatest time ever. I'm working on this play, I had one day off, I'm watching the best TV ever.'"
  • On learning Ambrose would be cast as her sister: "It just made sense. . . . When I met her, she really reminded me of my cousin, so I knew there was something about us. I don't know her that well, but there's something about us that's relatable."

Online Dating Disaster in Broken English

I got around to Netflixing the movie Broken English this weekend, and I was really touched by the story of Nora (the always fabulous Parker Posey), a lovelorn thirtysomething living in New York City.

I got around to Netflixing the movie Broken English this weekend, and I was really touched by the story of Nora (the always fabulous Parker Posey), a lovelorn thirtysomething living in New York City. Single and unsatisfied, the first half of the movie courts your sympathies for Nora and the loneliness she's experiencing in many parts of her life.

Frustrated by her lack of men in the beginning, she happens upon a Match.com-like dating site and gets some pretty funny — yet harsh and straightforward news: "Your selection didn't turn up anything." Online dating sometimes makes you feel like there's slim-pickins out there. We feel your pain, Nora.

Love It Or Hate It? Parker Posey's Spirit Awards Look

What would the Independent Spirit Awards be without the reigning queen of independent film?

What would the Independent Spirit Awards be without the reigning queen of independent film? Like many Hollywood stars, Parker Posey's hair is cut into a chic bob — but she's got her own take on it. While other stars have blunt-cut bangs, Parker lets hers grow longer and softer. What do you think of her look here?

Coveted Crib: Pocket Full of Posey

A bit behind the times, I recently learned from Real Estalker that indie darling Parker Posey's three bedroom East Village co-op went on the market in late October for $1.175 million.

A bit behind the times, I recently learned from Real Estalker that indie darling Parker Posey's three bedroom East Village co-op went on the market in late October for $1.175 million. Putzing around on New York interior designer Rafael de Cárdenas's site, I discovered photos of the apartment, which has clearly been updated since early real-estate shots were taken. Don't get me wrong, the place is beautiful, unique, and all that you'd expect from a hip, indie actor; but, something about her exposed brick walls and uncovered floors reminds me of an Urban Outfitters product shot. It's got an artsy, bohemian, Hollywood Regency look, but not much creative clutter; it's sparse like a movie set. Rumor has it this pad has sold. But would you live in it? Tell me what you think after checking out these photos.

Seventh on Sale Is Super Stylish

The Olsens, the Kates, Eve, Dita, Liv, Jennifer Connelly and more came out in support of Seventh on Sale last night in NYC.

The Olsens, the Kates, Eve, Dita, Liv, Jennifer Connelly and more came out in support of Seventh on Sale last night in NYC. The ultra all white Olsen look was an excellent contrast to many of the deep colors or all-black attires. MAC ladies, Eva and Dita went glam and gold while Jennifer and Kate went red. Once again Kate Moss makes anything look amazingly stylish. Fashion designers like MJ, DVF and Francisco Costa were also in attendance. Blake Lively lived it up like a real Gossip Girl who gets to attend events with Anna Wintour. Seems a bit more Blair-like than Serena but we're loving it!

The dinner gala took place at NYC’s 69th Regiment Armory. The event is in support of 7thonsale which is an auction on eBay or shopping in store in NYC for designer clothes and items worn by celebrities. 100% of the proceeds go to those in need of help living with HIV and AIDS. Sounds like a great cause so it's no wonder it has so many supporters.

Halloween

A Fabby Halloween: Dazed and Confused Senior B*tch

I wasn't a Senior bitch in high school.

I wasn't a Senior bitch in high school. I was so over high school by the time the fourth year rolled around. I was attending college parties and eagerly awaiting college. I wasn't a bitch, I was aloof.

But, after seeing Dazed and Confused I so wanted to be a Senior bitch. Parker Posey, who played Darla, was my favorite. If you haven't seen the movie add it to your Netflix now, but the scene pictured is when the Senior bitches haze the incoming Freshman girls. These four foxes spray and squirt the girls with raw eggs, flour, peanut butter and ketchup — yum! They do have the courtesy of driving them through a car wash to rinse them off.

This costume is easy and breezy; but learn this line, as Halloween is the only time you can say it without repercussions: "Wipe that face off your head bitch!" Go Darla!
