Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem tried to have a quiet little lunch at Medeo in LA yesterday, but they were quickly swarmed with paparazzi on their way out. They're fun on their own, but together they're quite the hot commodity these days. This may not be Javier's most flattering angle, but he's definitely pulling off that facial scruff with his girl right behind him.

Oh I feel a little bad for them. Penelope's body language is really defensive and uncomfortable. The way she sort of has her hands in front of her face shows that she's not just pretending to be annoyed. It looks like a physical reaction--the impulse we have when we want to hide or become invisible. That in turn makes me uncomfortable looking at these pictures. You know what I mean - like, celebrities being pissed off at paps, giving the finger, fine whatever, but when I see someone that looks like they're in real distress I always empathize with them. Even though, yes, their celebrité is what keeps them in the public eye dining/shopping/going to the spa/cavoring on the beach in Cabo etc. Am I just too sensitive or something? Does anyone else ever feel this way?

I cant wait till I see "Love in the Time of Cholera." Hopefully it lives up to the book. I can't wait till 100 years of solitude gets made into a movie one day....

I think Penelope is pretty in a weird way. But these pics are definitely not flattering. She's also a great actress in her native language. Her accent gets in the way when she performs in English.
