Jessica Simpson kept belting out her songs this weekend, performing in Charleston, West Virginia last night. On Friday she told her fans, "Because of my faith, I believe that I can conquer the world and all its opinions and ideas and all of its judgments", possibly alluding to the drama with her new curves. Even President Obama is aware of the controversy. In his interview before the Super Bowl, (watch it after the jump) Matt Lauer teased Obama about being bumped off of the Us Weekly cover for Jessica, which President Obama responded to by saying she's "in a weight battle apparently. Oh well!" The story has gotten a little out of hand at this point with everyone adding their two cents, but Jess doesn't look like she's letting it get to her as she continues to take the stage with confidence and pride.
To see President Obama joking about the magazine cover, around minute 11 in the video just read more.

Oy. In a month we'll see her on the cover of US with the headline "20 lbs in 4 Weeks! How Jessica Got Her Body Back"
I would be absolutely humiliated if the President of the United States read that I had a weight battle on national television.
1I love how she doesn't care but is wearing black now to look "slimmer".
2Popsugar that's a lie and you know it. Matt held up the cover and The President READ the caption under her picture to the right of his article... he isn't aware or even cares...he simply READ the caption aloud. Instigating is what you are doing. Cheap journalism tricks aren't entertaining.
3Joecer is right, he wasn't "aware" and only read the caption
4Not to mention, Matt remarked that the headlining picture on the cover of Michelle, Malia and Sasha didn't include him as it did inside the magazine. He did not 'get bumped by Jessica' as you conveniently misspoke.
"The story has gotten a little out of hand at this point with everyone adding their two cents..." finally some truth in your header.
5Well, as much as outlets such as this talk about inane public figures ad nauseum, how could he miss this completely frivolous topic?
6If this is fat, then I'm in trouble! I think she looks healthy (I am not condoning the high waisted mess she wore in Chili!)
7As soon as I heard him say that line I knew the media frenzy was about to begin. Matt Lauer even clarified immediately following the story and indicated that Obama was simply reading the headline, not adding his own two cents. Taking this line out of context and trying to make something out of nothing is just bad journalism.
8HAHAHAAHHAHAAHA! Im sorry but this gets funnier everyday! You cant be a media wh*re and then not expect a backlash at some point.
9nycscoop i totally agree about the Obama thing...but some how the Simpson camp will spin it. I see Poppa Joes wheels spinning up ideas to make money!!!
10For the record - she looks soooo much better than she did at the cookoff.
11I have yet to comment on this- here I go-
When you base your entire career on fluff, a la Jessica Simpson, this is what you should expect.
Her "career" is based on what she looks like. If Kate Winslet gained 20 lbs, people would probably just say she was enjoying her life
12I have 2 points to make:
131. I agree with mar 100%: don't covet the paparazzi for a living if you don't want the bad to be shown along with the good.
2. President Obama was simply reading the cover of the magazine and not "commenting" on it. Commenting would entail a completely different scenario (one NOT involving the magazine and Obama just randomly making a comment) than the one that actually took place: Lauer showing Obama the cover, pointing at Jessica Simpson and Obama reading the headline.
she doesn't look fat, but does ANYONE care if she is? only the tabloids and other celebrities are talking about her weight. everyone else is REACTING to their comments; enough, next story.
14I think this whole thing is her stylist's fault! If she hadn't worn that very unflattering outfit then none of this would be happening. But really - she looks great. I'd be happy with that figure.
15It's not a case of being a porker, it's a case of serious bad taste and an unfortunate clothing choice! Is that picture above a recent one? She looks great!
16WoW! Before I just thought she had gained some weight. But now I for sure think she is pregnant! She has to be! I would feel so awful about myself if I were that big that fast, and the president was talking about it on national TV
I feel bad for her...
17yea seriously- anyone who saw the interview could tell he read it off the cover of the magazine- and the only reason he was looking is cause that was the spot he was in thepic they cut off. lets be realistic here people!
18i think that it's just ridic. if people are making such a big deal about it. if she's happy and tony's happy with her, then fine - let her weigh what she wants. we're used to seeing the jess that was super thin because that's what the pop label wanted of her, and now i guess she figures that she can do what she want now that she's changed genres. it's fine i guess. c'est la vie
19"When you base your entire career on fluff,"
"don't covet the paparazzi for a living if you don't want the bad to be shown along with the good."
What a load of absolute garbage.
I wont even bother to insist that it's unfair to make the statement that she covets the paparazzi for a living because that most likely your presumption because you cant stand the girl.
But in any case to an extent many celebrities do this to a degree. That still doesn't mean two wrongs make a right and you have the go ahead to insult them.
I get that some people don't like Jessica Simpson but like her or hate her, there is absolutely no excuse for this Cyber bullying of her over this weight issue.
As far as I am aware she has never proclaimed that beauty is about being slim and pretty. She is not the only celebrity who over her career has liked to look good -had nice clothes, make up hair or even done a revealing shoot for a magazine.
Whether her career is based on politics, serious acting or lighthearted entertainment is not a basis to decide whether you can critise and bully/tease someone about their looks/appearances.
Does that mean that its outrageous to insult Kate Winslet but it's okay to do so to Jessica, hilary duff, Jennifer lopez, and other female celebs whom you might consider 'fluffy' or lacking in talent?
That a shameful thing to say.
What about Jennifer Anister - who just did that GQ pratically naked cover shot. When she puts on 10lbs do we now have a licence to call her a fatty?
20angel blue- I really do not appreciate your comment. You certainly did not understand the point of what I said.
I do not think Jess is fat at all, I think she is very pretty in fact, however, her career is one of made of fluff, that is my opinion, expect people to be petty with you. When youi build your career on the way you look, expect backlash when you look like crap.
My Kate Winslet reference was basically saying that Kate Winslet can gain 20 lbs and it is not a big deal to the media since the basis of her career is not built on her being a size 2.
There are 2 different careers in Hollywood, one that feeds off the paps, a la Jess and ones that feed off of the fine work they do, a la Kate Winslet.
Go watch a Jessica Simpson video and you tell me how "deep" she is.....
21and seriously, who cares if I like her or not. That has absolutly nothing to do with anything. Fact is the press is having a field day with this because of who it is-,and that's a fact
22The currency she's traded in the industry has been her looks and body. I think she looks fine, but I understand the buzz about her weight. My sister also is 5'2" and has weighed 135 (JS's reported weight); she was chunky then. Now she weighs 110 by watching EVERYTHING she eats and exercising 4 days a week. But she's much happier now.
I don't buy that Jessica is heavier because she happy; why else would she still be trying to wear styles that only look good on thin women?
23This is an absolute joke. A "weight battle?" Please! Leave the girl alone. Maybe she gained a few pounds, maybe she didn't. Who cares. Everyone will do that at some point in their life. She's not fat or even overweight by any means. The fact that Jessica Simpson has gained a few pounds has become this big of a deal tells a lot about our society, and it's not good.
24I agree , she is gorgeous, but the media is very petty and none of this surprises me, that is the point that I am trying to make, not that she looks bad.
She definatly needs a stylist however....
25Is it REALLY that big of a deal? so she put on some pounds, she still looks good; and to make it seem like Obama "knew" about this, and concerns himself with these things is pretty lousy
26I am in love with that white Pomerianian!!
27thank you
28Yup, I just have to second the point that Obama merely read the headline they covered his face up with!
29Will this ever end? Seriously..will it?
30I just LOVE him.. he is OUR president... He is so relatable and he is truly in touch with reality unlike most of our past presidents.
31Angel Blue Jessica most definitely promoted the idea that you need to be thin to be pretty when she lost 20 pounds and walked around half naked crapping on about how hot she now supposedly was. She also promotes that idea that you need big fake blond hair cause, as she has said many times, it makes men like her and she dresses for men. Oh and don't forget that men like girls to be stupid, which she is and considers to be adorable. I don't care if she's fat or thin but she is a nightmare as a role model and a disgrace to women everywhere so she can suck up the weight criticisms, fair or not.
32When is this going to be over alredy? And the outfit above is much better than the belted one.
33Right on trippa!!! You said it perfectly!!! And I couldnt agree more
34Yup, Trippa nailed it!
35The phone "converts into a car", LOL! I heart Obama!
36i'm more interested on what obama got to say on the recovery for the economy haha
37
38simmer down everyone!
39the media just keeps spinning this. president obama was only read what the title above the picture said. it wasn't his own personal comment. matt even said after the interview obama was reading the headline. and the title did say "weight battle.
if you are going to be bashing anyone it should be that trashy us weekly. they are the one who printed that headline.
40I'll have to agree w/ trippa haha
41I love Jessica but she has put on a lot of weight. Maybe she IS pregnant.
42Thank you joecer for clearing that up for me b/c I was about to comment about how sad it was that our President was even commenting about such a STUPID story! It's nice to know he didn't comment on it b/c I was about to be very disappointed.
43Since when is that considered fat?! This whole thing is ridiculous, and she looks great.
