Katherine Heigl recently announced her plans to adopt a special-needs baby from Korea, and she stepped out in Atlanta earlier today with her new baby Naleigh Kelley! Naleigh is a combination of her first and middle names, Nancy, after Heigl's mother, and Leigh, which is also Katherine's sister's middle name. Mom and daughter are in Atlanta, as Katherine works on Life as We Know It, which is also the reason she's taking a hiatus from working on Grey's Anatomy. Hopefully the time off from the show will give Katherine and Naleigh a chance to bond, especially with dad Josh around to complete the growing family.
To see more of Katherine and Naleigh just read more.
I'm so happy for Katherine and Josh! Congrats
Wow, that was fast! Unless she had already started the process by the time she announced that she planned to adopt...
This baby is gorgeous! On a side note Popsugar...I keep getting "Access Denied" when I click on the link to look at the photos. Grr... This happened yesterday with something else...
anya_t- it's happened to me too ( ?? )
I believe the baby is Naleigh because of Nancy and Leigh - Katherine's mother and Josh's mother's names. Not Katherine's first and middle names... as her name is Katherine....
haha skinnypig. I was thinking that too
Naleigh is short for Katherines Mother and Sister Nancy, and Margaret Leigh
Ergh, thank you guys. We're looking into it!!
that baby is really cute.
Funny cause when I read what was written it came across as saying that "Nancy" and "Leigh" were the babies main names and Naleigh was short. It's worded wierd, but it also reads as if it's referring to the babies names without Katherine's mom and sis involved...
That baby is so darn adorable. To bad she has a stupid mother.
What kind of Special Needs? I keep wondering that and everyone's so vague...
She is adorable!
Katherine is a mom now? Wow, didn't see that coming this soon or at all. Good for her on adopting, it's a good thing to do!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW shes looking SOOOOO small for a 10-month-old baby!!!
maybe becouse all the problems she has.....
I don't mean to rain on the baby parade- but isn't it a little odd that in these photos the baby is facing away from her new mama and the other adults... Are they just trying to get the paparazzi to see the baby's face, or does mrs. heigl have no maternal instincts? She seems to be excited with the idea of a carseat, not the actual baby in the seat. Just a thought.
Aww she's so cute! I am so happy for Katherine and Josh, as well as Naleigh!
This is the first I've heard that the baby is special needs.
Ha - I thought I was the only one that thought it was weird the baby is facing away from everyone in all the pics. Cute baby though!!!
That baby is too too cute! I could just eat her up. Congrats to Katherine and Josh!
People, come on. Adoption process started a while ago. There are fewer potential parents for a special needs baby - so it's natural that the process would be faster. And the car seat thing... If you snapped me on the day I was taking my newborn home, I probably looked totally preoccupied with the car seat, stroller, etc. It's all new to her. Give her a break.
Awww, the baby is precious. Wow, I'm impressed with Katherine and her husband's decision to adopt. I'm impressed that they could open their hearts to a baby (of different ethnicity, no less) that's not biologically their's.
I believe Katherine has an adopted sister--doesn't she? I seem to recall her talking about it in an interview once as something that would definitely be a possibility for her future.
So let me see if I get this straight . . .
Elton John, a stable, wealthy, successful, entertainer, in a stable relationship, CANNOT adopt a baby because he has an enthusiastic love of show tunes.
Katherine Heigl , of whom NOTHING is stable, is free to rush to Asia to pick out a child like she would shop for a pair of shoes.
Am I getting this picture right???
Yes, her sister is adopted. And the baby is very cute!
wendel...discrimination is awful, huh
What isn't stable about Katherine Heigl? Just because you may not like her doesn't mean she couldn't be a great parent. I mean I agree that Elton John shouldn't be denied adoption due to being gay but I don't see how Katherine Heigl being annoying would make her a bad parent.
Side note very cute baby!
cute baby and she seems like a great mom
I thought Elton John was denied because he was too old and the marriage is not considered legal in Ukraine? Different countries have different rules....I'm sure he can try elsewhere if he really wanted to adopt.
wellcome to this world (even you were born a while before...)Naleigh!!Congrats Josh and Katherine!!and I'm sure shes going to be a happy baby, because they look like great parents!!good wishes!
that is one of the cutest babies i've ever seen...Congrats to Katherine and her hubby... Naleigh is absolutely precious....
I rather have a parent that works hard and live their life than someone that keep trashing people they barely know on the internet. How can you know she's not going to be a good mother? Adopting is always a beautiful gesture, stop thinking mean things and stick with her kindness and her willingness to be a mother to someone who has no parent and really needs help.
Wow - this changes my perception of her...
I hope everything goes smoothly for both Katherine and the baby.
Cute, very cute! But why is the baby on the floor? In the filthy sidewalk???
I think it's awesome that she adopted, and it's even awesomer that she is taking on the responsibility of raising a special needs (whatever that means) child, but does anyone else get the feeling that she's doing it for attention? I don't want to be miss negative nancy over here, but with her work schedule and all that she has going on, it just seems like a child would not fit in. And the picture looks fishy to me.
They seem stable to me and she said they started the process to adopt a long time ago so it's not like she just picked a baby out.
Congrats to them!
i don't understand why you all have so negative comments about katherine. she's one of the most normal people in hollywood, sweet, kind, smart, just normal...
Congrats to them. I've read some really mean comments about how people shouldn't adopt "foreign" babies, and they just baffle me. When is it wrong to give an orphan a home?? I especially applaud Katherine for choosing a child with special needs; Naleigh will probably get a lot of care that she otherwise wouldn't have without Katherine's financial resources.
I never liked AKtherien Heigal, but now I absolutley love her! This is so great!! The baby is so cute!
What's the score with this woman, doesn't she have any eggs of her own????
# 40 you are truely ignorant! Its absolutley wonderful that people adopt! how dare you leave such an ignorant post! people can adopt weatehr or not they cant convieve on their own or not! the children who get adopted by wonderful people are truely blessed and the adopted parents are blessed. ignorant people like you who probably have 20 kids and are on welfare bc you are so fat adn lazy to get a job. it makes me so sick that people take drugs while pregnant and abuse children get to keep on having them and then there are WINDERFul ppl who for some unfornatate reason cant concieve on their own. you and all of the crack head welfare moms make me SICK!
Attention? Why she would adopt someone with special needs for attention? Go adopt a healthy baby instead. And look at her face, she looks genuinely happy about it. Go Katherine.
i always think that it's nice when people decide to adopt a special needs child since those are often the kids that are left in the system the longest. i just hope that she's not so into her career that she and her husband don't give her the personal attention that she needs. sometimes i think that people with money figure that they can help a child and not necessarily have to be present all the time to do it.
wow! that certainly WAS a fast adoption!
I just loathe Katherine Heigl, so I feel bad for the baby.
I am surprised by all the negativ comments to this adoption. First of all, I am pretty sure the adoption was not as fast as it seems to outsiders. I actually commend the couple for not making their desire to adopt public much earlier, something they could clearly have done if they wanted to use it for PR purposes. Secondly, commenting on the way the baby is facing and linking it to Katherine's suppsed lack of mothering skills is just absurd! Finally, in what way is nothing stable about Katherine? She is married, she has a well-paying job, she has a stable family (her mother has been by her side all along) and she is not known for being out partying. In fact, she seems to fulfill all conditions required to adopt even if she was not a celebrity. Elton John and Madonna, on the other hand, do not fulfill those conditions, mainly on account of their age. Being a young woman in your 30s is very different from being an aging man in your 60s, and no matter your sexual orientation, I definitely think the former is much better placed to raise a child!!!! That's not discrimination, just pure logic about age and health and life expectancy.
how adorable
!
Adopting is great but I am concerned about the alarming trend to adopt kids from clear across the globe when there are kids in our own country that have the same need. HELP THE PEOPLE IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD!
Love. I've always gotten a negative impression of Heigl from the media but knowing more about her family history + now the new addition of baby Naleigh makes me respect her a little bit more.
You'd think with all the money she makes, she might buy a normal baby.
