Taylor Momsen wore her signature heavy eyeliner on the September cover of Teen Vogue. We're used to seeing Taylor as Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl but have also gotten a peek at her rock-n-roll side performing with her band The Pretty Reckless this Summer. Taylor talks about dating boys her age and how she almost became Hannah Montana. Here's more:

- On being mature for her age: "I live a very adult life: I have two different careers; I'm on tour. What am I going to do, hang out with the high school kids? I just can't relate to what they talk about—it seems so petty ... My parents know that I'm not going to date someone who's sixteen. Boys are so much less mature than girls as it is; there's just no way— I would eat a boy my age alive."
- On her rock-n-roll look and sound: "I had long, pretty hair, and it didn't fit me. I'm pretty, but I'm not, like, a "pretty girl." So I pulled up a bunch of photos of Joan Jett and said, "Do that to my hair." There was a distinct change in my wardrobe, too, and I know people were a little, um, taken aback. But it wasn't me that changed—it was just that I decided to start being myself. Now I do my own makeup, my own hair, and dress myself, and it feels better ... I would never want to do something in music that isn't representing me—I'd feel like I was faking myself. I wanted to have it all done so I could say, "Here's who I am, either you like it or you don't."
- On whether she's relieved she didn't get chosen for Hannah Montana after being a finalist: "I think it's a great opportunity for Miley, but yeah, I guess I am relieved. If I had gotten the part, it would be a very different show. It wouldn't have worked for me. I push back."
I think it would be good for her to hang out with high school kids. She seems to be growing up way too fast for her own good.
1From what she's saying she acts like she's too mature... calling what hs kids (her age) usually talk about petty?! LOL she seems a little too full of herself.
it's not cute.
2She needs to take it down a notch... her overconfidence
Don't get me wrong, I don't like all that manufactured crap that's in the magazines, but she's WAY full of it and has grown WAY too quick.
Good one.
3"What am I going to do, hang out with the high school kids? I just can't relate to what they talk about—it seems so petty ..." Yet you're on the cover of a TEEN magazine
not loving her. seems very insincere and arrogant. not an attractive quality
4I'm 30 and I still can chat with HS-aged girls. What the hell is she wanting to converse about that is going to be so far out of there comprehension? Sex? Drugs? Makeup? Being tired? Really big mistakes in hairstyles? How nobody understands you because you are so above it all? Criminy. I hate the Hannah Montana franchise just as much as the next smart person, but slamming Miley for being a dormat and having a successful career is just plain bad business.
Maybe she can't relate to anyone because no one wants to talk to her. Ugh.
5She also commented how she was an 'artist' and didn't need to go to college because she has already 'found herself'.
6Hello, Lindsay Lohan!
Good idea Taylor! Tell TEEN vouge that you hate teenagers. Smart move insulting your whole audience!
7Ha, Sarah, good point !
... and how old are the guys she wants to date ? in their 20s? ..she IS a teenager, whether she likes it or not !
8Haha Sarah, I agree, good point! She seems waaay to arrogant and I don't think that will translate well to fans (if she has any after this article, lol)
9Sarah hit the nail on the head. Not too smart, Taylor. Waaaaay arrogant (and not that talented either)...
10She actually looks pretty but too mature in these pictures. In candids she looks really rough, a mini Courtney Love. I don't know if these quotes show her maturity or immaturity.
11This interview actually made me like her..I think she's so honest to say that all those high school drama is petty because it is. And her doing this on a teen vogue interview is even more honest. But no matter how she tries, she's a pretty girl
12what a lot of high school kids talk about IS petty. i just graduated and am so glad to not be going back to high school in august. also, why does she need to go to college? she has a successful career which is why most people go to college (to find a good job) and makes good money. i was not a Taylor Momsen fan until this interview.
13what if the whole acting thing falls through after gossip girl? she has nothing to fall back on. i think girls like emma watson and natalie portman who choose to go to college to expand their knowledge. those girls are the one who are getting the respectable reputations.
14dating older guys....is she even legal?
15she needs to fire her publicist
16Ha, school is not for artists?
17I really don't understand why she's theoretically famous. She's nobody, no-talent and not cute.
But that could be copy and pasted as a comment for a lot of starlets these days, I guess.
18Funny - she's trying to act really grown up, but this interview just proved she is still a little girl with a lot to learn.
19Wow. She sounds like a bit of a handful!
20"I live a very adult life: I have two different careers; I'm on tour. What am I going to do, hang out with the high school kids? I just can't relate to what they talk about—it seems so petty ... My parents know that I'm not going to date someone who's sixteen. Boys are so much less mature than girls as it is; there's just no way— I would eat a boy my age alive."
OK I'm 18 and I just graduated from High school and this offended me a little!
OK so she is sooooo much better than us mere high school students that she would never talk to with us about things like make-up, hair, and boys! I wonder who she does talk to about things like this? Her mother? Her hair dresser? The cast of Gossip Girl? Her best friend? But her best friend might be in High school so wouldn't talk to her!
And how is that petty?
She says it like she has to pay bills and taxes!
And that part about eating a boy her age alive what exactly does that mean? She sounds a tad snobby like she wouldn't give a boy her age the time of day!
I mean who is the ideal guy for her to date a 22 year old drummer?
She needs to stay within her age bracket! She is still jail-bait!
I think she needs some normalcy in her life before she crashes and burns at a young age!
Next thing you know she will be doing drugs and going through rehab!
And I agree with she does look like a mini Courtney Love!
And to the person that said she has a career she doesn't need college you sound just like Heidi in season 1 of the Hills when she quit college to work at that interior design place and it wasn't as much fun as she expected!
21She needs a back-up plan!
What a f*ckin stuck up b*tch
22Someone trying so hard to appear mature...usually just isn't!
23...all this sounds like she's desperately trying to build up a certain picture of herself...instead of just being herself...
I agree these attempts to cound so cool confident mature and wordly only reveal the rather immature and insecure girl hiding underneath.
But that's giving her the benefit of the doubt actually. Perhaps she really *is* just that full of herself. LOL.
24Wow, immature and arrogant!
25In a sad attempt and trying to act mature, she just comes off as an immature brat.
26What's ironic about this interview is that, rather than coming off as mature and worldly-wise, she sounds childish, bratty, and very immature. Her sense of entitlement may tell her that she's an adult internally and so much more mature than her peers, but she's fooling herself and comes across as, well, foolish.
27Oh, and I really think it's a shame when a teenager looks this hard. She'll never get these years back. It's one thing to be yourself, but at 15 (?) she already looks like Courtney Love on a not-so-good day.
28She seems waaaayyy too full of herself! She pisses me off. Thinking you are mature doesn't always mean you ARE mature, I mean how old are you?????!!! Little girl..you still have lots of growing up to do. And about eating up boys your age alive....get a life.
29I see rehab in this brat's future. artist my ass.
30I concur, curvylibrarygal. It seems that Taylor is trying very hard to separate herself from the rest of her generation (maybe in an attempt to reach an older fanbase). While I applaud her efforts to define herself as an individual, I believe she really needs to take a step back and realize that her assumptions of maturity are just that: assumptions. She's really just another one of those kids who are in too much of a hurry to grow up.
31One day she'll realize how immature all of her maturity talk is. Only kids and people without friends talk about themselves like that - she falls into both categories I'm sure.
32Plus she should stop giving herself credit for ripping off the 90s for her look.
33I like how she said she "just started being herself" right after saying she copied Joan Jett's haircut. Um, ok.
It's really hard to take her seriously cuz....well, for all the reasons mentioned above! And clearly she's not winning herself any fans, from any age group.
34uh.....YOU GO TO COLLEGE TO LEARN. just because youre not going to USE trig doesn't mean you shouldn't learn about it! Does she think all of us non-artists use it everyday? School helps you use your mind, singing is great but doing it for the next 70 years of your life and nothing else wont do your brain much good.
35Everyone can have their opinion on Miley, but you have to hand it to the girl...she has no problem being herself. That was a bit of a stab at her on Taylors part.
36Stuck up, not to mention STUPID, b*tch. Oh sorry, I mean "artist".
37she seems rude and petty i think a reality check would do her good she needs ( in my opinion ) to realize that she is know more special than any other teenage girl
38Wow completely immature and rude. That whole i don't talk to high school kids because I'm so above it.... please its not like you pay bills, actually get a reasonable amount of money for the job you do, raise kids, worry about common grown up concerns. That's ridiculous, if you are so above that would teen crap then DONT POSE FOR A TEEN MAGAZINE. And the college stuff please if she should have said it a different way, I'm okay when people say i don't want to go to college and give good reasons why they dont......, okay i get that but she sounds like she is above it like she is too good for college because she is an "artist" come up with a better reason and get back to me. Natalie P., Anne H., Brad P., Jake G., Jodi F. and many more don't tell me you are above them all please being an artist doesn't make you above college nobody is above college. Come up with better reasons for not going, start being more mature, get over yourself and GET A MAKE OVER PLEASE
39TV: You recently finished high school, more than two years early. Were you just eager to get it over with?
TM: I found it kind of boring. I'm an artist; I'm not going to use trigonometry. Now I'm taking college classes online—I want to major in Language Arts.
TV: Do you have any interest in doing the regular college thing? Enrolling at a university, living in a dorm...
TM: For most people, college is a place where you learn about yourself, and I feel like I'm doing that already. I'm already independent.
40Eh I didn't like HS kids when I was in HS either. What they talk about is petty. So I can't knock someone else for feeling exactly how I felt at that age.
I had to grow up early cause of my family situation. Sometimes you aren't trying to grow up early, you just do.
41Haha. This interview represents the maturity she's talking about, and it's the exact opposite.
She's leading an "adult life"? Sorry, but I don't know too many adults that live like actors and musicians. In order to be an adult, you have to go through different things than she's referring to.
Though it's still a desirable life to lead nevertheless. I'd gladly trade my ordinary, obnoxious high school life for that.
42Taylor is WAY more mature than most people her age -it's not just an act. I respect what people here are saying -I can see how her comments can be construed as arrogant but they can also be seen as very honest. Don't forget that she's been a breadwinner from the age of six! -And that (though you might loathe admitting it) -did take talent-and that is something that Taylor has in spades. She is an amazing songwriter -and I actually am in a position to judge -having been a songwriter from approximately the same age. She's also an excellent actress -and I think that she'll prove that over time also. The fact of the matter is that we all know how scatty girls can be at that age -and frankly guys (when I was that age) were just as shallow -generally. She's at an age where she's seeking out simpaticos -and given time-she'll find them. She IS and artist and knows precisely what she wants, I think that that fact (and the fact that she is already very successful in her chosen field -entertainment) will mean that sad losers with nothing better to do that b*tch about people that they have never met (and probably never will) will console their tattered egos by writing vitriol that they will never have to defend. I scarcely think you care that there is actually a person behind that face that your talking about -still, -it only goes to show that there's a little hurt child in all of us. And don't worry about Taylor's fan base -she continues to win them because she is the real deal. I think that combined with her beauty scares some insecure creatures. Emotional maturity is simply not linked to age in any reliable way. And what is "emotional maturity" anyway?
Characteristics / Traits of Emotionally Mature People
Knowing as to what one wants -and how to make it happen.
Thinking sooner than acting and having control over one’s behaviour.
Having the sense of self-reliance and the capability to take accountability for one’s life and actions.
Having patience
Bonding with others in a supportive and constructive manner.
Actually caring about others and representing their concern.
Acting honestly and living by one's principles.
Keeping self-control and balance in all things.
Having the capacity to tackle difficult and demanding situations.
I'd say Taylor does pretty well with regards to these indicators -do you?
